Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte is a design curator and art director based in Italy. A leading specialist in the contemporary panorama of collectible design. Nicolas is a trained architect who anchors his research in artistic and cultural narrations. He has curated more than sixty-five design exhibitions for private galleries, museums and institutions. Nicolas is the co-founder of NOMAD, a boutique art and design fair, that brings the most exclusive galleries and collectors to some of the most sought after locations around Europe, from Monaco to Capri, Cannes, St. Moritz and Venice. Since the 2016 NOMAD has partnered with some of the most exclusive luxury brands including Gucci, Dior, Loro Piana, Ruinart, Bulgari, Christie’s and BMW.He is the founder and art director of Carwan Gallery, the first contemporary design gallery operating the Near East for over a decade, launching unique commissioned projects with India Mahdavi, Vincenzo De Cotiis, Bernard Khoury and Marcin Rusak among others. Between 2018 and 2021 he was art director of the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia Design Department, the historic bronze foundry in Milan. He brought designers from around the world to create projects that showed artistic innovation in bronze production, including Katie Stout, Anton Alvarez, Robert Stadler and Roberto Sironi. Additionally, he acted as a consultant in Egypt at Siwa Oasis, where he contributed between 2017-2019 to an urban revitalisation and programming project for EQI and the European Union. Recently, he has been consulting for patrons and companies that enhance culture to influence social change in Africa, more precisely in Tunisia, Botswana and Rwanda. In March 2024 will kick-off the most recent project he curated: “Interlude Rwanda”, a non-profit exhibition presenting a constellation of installations across the country, set within extraordinary cultural sites and natural landmarks, to bring an international audience to discover local artists and designers.
