I always pictured myself graduating college, curating and maintaining a museum, immersing myself in history and the research of new information, and teaching others to love history as much as I do. After earning a BA in History it seemed like an appropriate dream. However life seemed to know best and had other plans for me. I was given an opportunity to teach high school math, and my life changed forever. What I thought was going to be a stepping stone on my journey turned into a passion, and I became enamored with learning the intricacies of math, teaching it to others, and helping them understand the opportunities that math can provide. I earned my Master’s in Teaching and have been teaching high school math ever since. Currently, I am studying data analytics and coding, working through the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate on Coursera, and teaching myself Python 3 on Code Academy. Next year I plan on completing the IBM Data Analytics Professional Certificate as well. I’m really enjoying seeing the connections that technology has with the math that I am teaching, and showing my students what math can help them achieve in the future. I love thinking about the ways data analytics can be combined with the study of history and how I might be able to use that in the future. I also am able to look at the data my students give me everyday and use it to best help them. This is not the future I had originally planned, but I’m excited to see where it takes me.
