About Nick Freeman

I am an IT Business Analyst with a strong track record of defining and delivering a range of system implementations, enhancements and upgrade projects within the investment banking domain. I have also been engaged as an IT contractor in a range of guises to utilise my broad knowledge of technologies and business processes alongside a good understanding of Agile methodologies. I am able to recognise the business need in alignment with an assured comprehension of the means to achieve the aims of the organisation. This provides clear delivery pathways and ensures the best possible outcome for the business is sought, scoped and successfully achieved. I am best known for utilising my skills as a Business Analyst who develops strong, proactive product ownership of IT solutions. This provides the organisation with the ability to initiate both in-house and enterprise solutions from a business perspective first rather than being technically-led and, in turn, guarantees that IT systems support and enhance BAU.A brief selection of my standout projects include the implementation of Orc Trader for Mitsubishi UFJ which facilitated a significant part of their new equity derivatives business; a major upgrade of Mitsubishi UFJ’s Fidessa platform which included the removal of redundant functionality resulting in an 86% reduction of site-specific code; the expansion and enhancement of HSBC’s market connectivity providing access to liquidity for their cash equity business resulting in complete coverage of EMEA exchanges; and a major expansion of Merrill Lynch’s EEMEA emerging markets which included being the first remote members of the Athens and Tel-Aviv stock exchanges. Key Skills:• Systems Implementation & Interfacing - API, FIX, XML• Front Office Trading & Operations• Product Ownership• Project Management - Agile, RUP & Waterfall Methodologies• Offshore Resource & Vendor Management

  • Mitsubishi Ufj Securities International
    It Consultant (Contract)
Mitsubishi Ufj Securities International Jan 2013 - May 2014
    Chiyoda-Ku, Tokyo, Jp
I was engaged as a contractor to provide vital analysis regarding business IT solutions that were subsequently deployed to support Mitsubishi’s equity & equity derivatives business within the Front Office & Operations.Among the projects I worked on during this period, both as a Business Analyst and Project Manager, was a business critical migration to Omgeo Client Trade Management (CTM). Prior to this, Mitsubishi had been operating with the Omgeo Oasys Global Direct (OGD) solution which was being decommissioned by Omgeo and therefore required urgent replacement. As a result of this, the project needed to be completed within an exceptionally tight 3-month delivery timeframe in order that the software answered the demands of the business and maintained a high standard of client care. As BAPM I drove this project through to successful completion, facilitating significant improvements to BAU.I was awarded several contract extensions in order to lead a number of additional projects which facilitated the continued success and expansion of the business. These included the deployment of Orc Trader which was being implemented as a part of Mitsubishi’s new equity derivatives business, which I led as BAPM throughout the full lifecycle into BAU and facilitated new business that forecast significant revenues. I also delivered an upgrade of the business’ Fidessa (Enterprise) platform wherein many of the business customisations had become redundant and necessitated the solution to effectively be re-implemented as new with a fresh slate. I successfully completed this upgrade, which resulted in the reduction of site-specific code from 1,200 files to below 200 and meant that future upgrades could be completed more efficiently at reduced cost and reduced risk.
  • Hsbc Global Banking And Markets
Head Of Market Connectivity Emea (Contract)
Hsbc Global Banking And Markets Dec 2009 - Dec 2011
    London, Gb
I was initially engaged as a contractor to provide business analysis and product expertise for the Fidessa platform, system enhancements and upgrades. During this period of employment I was awarded 3 separate contract extensions and despite being a contractor I was made Head of Market Connectivity to lead a business critical expansion of HSBC’s ability to execute equity and listed derivatives on any exchange within the EMEA region.Within this role, I managed a large range of projects which included new memberships to major European equity & derivative exchanges and MTFs; on-going maintenance and upgrade of existing exchange memberships; and DMA solutions via local brokers to Eastern European, Middle Eastern and African markets. Some notable projects I led whilst at HSBC include the revision of a tardy SDLC for Market Connectivity to a more suitable agile delivery which produced significant enhancements to the speed of system improvement turnaround and an 80% reduction in post go-live issues; an initiative to resolve real-time market data issues within front office systems which involved the upgrade of supporting infrastructure and optimisation of software configuration.I also led the Johannesburg offices’ successful migration from their legacy solution to Fidessa, thus preventing a costly licence renewal which not only saved the business £150k but also facilitated a 70% increase of EMEA client volumes into the Johannesburg market.

As IT Relationship Manager it was my responsibility to work with the COO and facilitate the IT delivery to enable trading and settlement of business conducted on these exchanges. In addition to defining the scope of the IT deliverables, I also managed the implementation through the full lifecycle including the subsequent support. The project resulted in significant savings in brokerage costs paid away and a major increase in trade turnover on each market implemented.During my tenure at BAML, I also successfully led a number of projects as BAPM, including significant functional improvements to exchange orderbook entry controls which provided better management over operational risk; and a reporting solution that would better present in real-time the relevant credit risk associated to MICEX repo transactions; execution interfaces to facilitate equity swaps and programme trading.
