About Nick Hamilton
I work as a Principal Research Fellow within the internationally renowned Sports Engineering Research Group, at Sheffield Hallam University. SERG is the largest research centre in the world focusing on sports engineering with 20 staff plus 15 PhD and 10 Msc students. This means I work as a consultant to the sports industry and have been doing so for the past 20 years. I'm the lead designer of the creative and consultancy team focusing on sports product design, innovation, analysis and manufacture. I have developed a wide variety of products for a diverse range of sporting companies from ice skates to carbon fibre time trial bikes, golf clubs to hang glider components. I also lead the Design Engineering Research Theme delivering world class applied research. We specialise in the prevention of injury, performance and increasing participation. I am vice chair of the Outdoor Recreation Research Group, a unique multidisciplinary unit focused on delivering interdisciplinary consultancy and research in the outdoor sector; my personal passion. Away from work you'll find me with my friends and family enjoying the hills of Sheffield, the Peak District and beyond. I’m a mountain biker and organise many official and unofficial races around the city. I also write for the international mountain bike press telling stories of my experiences and reporting on events.
