In the wake of the wildfires that devastated West Maui in August of 2023, I undertook wildfire business recovery fundraising activities that rapidly gained momentum and presented an opportunity to develop a multi-year Maui business recovery support program. In November of 2023, I secured board support to make this a full-time undertaking. I recruited an advisory council, surveyed Maui business owners to understand the diverse range of needs and priorities, completed the fundraising campaigns, designed the program, and am currently driving the planning and execution of a series of live Maui Business Resilience Summits (e-commerce skill-building and government resources training and networking series).I have worked on the Hawaii Pacific Export Council in a part-time, volunteer capacity since 2019, serving as an Executive Board Member and the Treasurer of the non-profit 501(c)(3) since that time. In this capacity, I play a critical role in supporting and assisting local businesses in their efforts to expand in international markets. The Council works with the U.S. Commercial Service to mentor business leaders, develop and facilitate international trade education, identify export financing sources, explore issues that impact export trade, build local export assistance partnerships, and develop new and innovative ways to support our region's exporters.
