Hudson Link provides college education, life skills, and re-entry support to incarcerated men and women to help them make a positive impact on their own lives, their families and communities, resulting in lower rates of recidivism, incarceration and poverty. For 15 years I taught an "Introduction to Personal Computers" class in Sing Sing as a Mercy College Adjunct Professor. I was elected to the Board of Directors of Hudson Link in June 2011 and currently serve on several student and alumni focused committees.

Since completing the Leadership Westchester program I have volunteered as a peer interviewer for candidates applying to the program. I was recently honored by Volunteer New York as the 2023 Leadership Westchester Alum of the Year.

Since 2004, "Dorot’s Westchester programs have effectively combated social isolation among older adults in the county with food deliveries, weekly volunteer visits, inter-generational Shabbat celebrations, youth programs, and teleconference classes and support groups." I participate in Dorot Westchester's friendly visiting and calling programs for seniors.

The Neighbors Link mission is to strengthen the whole community through the healthy integration of immigrants. "Our mission is achieved by filling a service gap for new immigrant families, offering education and empowerment programs, involving longer-term residents in volunteer opportunities and creating substantive partnerships with other local organizations. Our strategies to educate, empower and employ families include a Worker Center, English as a Second Language (ESL) education, legal services and advocacy, workforce development, parent education, early childhood programs and academic support for school-age children of immigrants." I volunteered weekly as an in-person English language tutor for walk-in immigrant clients.

Washington Dc-Baltimore Area

The Washington English Center (WEC) provides affordable English-language literacy education and workforce preparation programs to adult immigrants in the greater Washington, DC area using volunteers. Students representing over 100 countries are supported by 350 volunteers who act as teachers, tutors, computer lab assistants, librarians, job coaches and mentors. Due to the pandemic WEC has expanded to serve immigrants and volunteers via virtual offerings. I completed two semesters serving one morning a week as an online co-teacher for a twelve week English language course for low level learners. I also completed one semester via Zoom as a 1:1 English language tutor for an immigrant client.

The Refugee and Employment Partnership (REP) is a group of volunteers focused on helping recently arrived refugees and asylees find suitable employment opportunities as they seek to establish new lives in the New York metropolitan area. REP serves as a bridge between qualified candidates and the companies and institutions that would welcome them as employees. REP works with refugee organizations to connect with suitable individual clients. As a Digital Literacy Volunteer I worked with REP mentors and their clients to identify relevant and accessible computer skills training resources based on client backgrounds and employment goals.

New York City Metropolitan Area

Selfhelp Community Services was founded to help those fleeing Nazi Germany maintain their independence and dignity as they struggled to forge new lives in America. Selfhelp is one of the largest and most respected not-for-profit human service agencies in the New York metropolitan area. Selfhelp offers a complete network of home care and community-based services with the overarching goal of helping seniors live with dignity and independence and avoid institutionalization. Selfhelp provides a Virtual Senior Center to enable clients to use technology from their homes to socialize and to participate in classes offered by volunteers. I created and taught a ten session technology series on the following topics: self-driving vehicles, artificial intelligence, robots, internet of things, augmented and virtual reality, 3D printers, digital assistants, online education, natural user interfaces, and technology enabled wellness. I also volunteered as a conversation partner for a senior at Selfhelp.

In partnership with a number of Rockland County government agencies, the Center for Safety and Change provides domestic violence, sexual assault and crime victims services. The mission is to develop strategies to end gender-based violence and provide shelter and supportive services that empower survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse and other crimes. The values are built on a foundation of knowledge that gender -based violence is a historically deep -rooted and pervasive reality. The Center is committed to changing systems that tolerate and perpetuate the oppression of women and violence against others. We are bound by these values to offer services that are both relevant to and respectful of the diverse communities we serve. The vision of the Center for Safety & Change is to help create a society in which all individuals can live with dignity and equality, free from fear, violence, and oppression. As a volunteer I helped review staff training materials and administrative policies and procedures.

Open Door Family Medical Centers in Westchester and Putnam Counties serve many of the hardest to reach, low-income and under-served residents with an accessible and affordable family/patient-centered medical home. The integrated delivery model includes primary care, dental, mental health and chronic disease management. Consumers are empowered to take charge of their health by participating in community delivered preventive and wellness services. The organization is a recognized leader in the innovative use of electronic health records and the delivery of services in schools and via mobile vans. As a volunteer I reported to the Chief Operating Officer and assisted with process innovation initiatives.

Yorktown Heights, New York

In 2013 I retired from IBM after 28 years in the IT department at Watson Research. In my last three years I worked closely with the Research IT Director and Portfolio Manager to evaluate existing business processes in order to implement maximum alignment of projects and resources with IT department, IBM Research and overall IBM strategy. I served as the Process and Program Manager for the department and also led our metrics initiatives.Prior IBM assignments included serving as an end user PC educator, author of just in time learning content, developer of technology enabled help and learning systems and collaboration tools and strategy consultant. I hold over 20 IBM patents and served as the team lead for the development of a portion of IBM internal education for inventors.

Family Services of Westchester offers a broad range of social and mental health services to strengthen and support families, children and individuals at every stage of the life cycle from infancy to adulthood. I served as a volunteer to help the executive team enhance their metrics and IT strategy.

I served as the school psychologist on a multi-disciplinary clinical team assigned to the large special education program in the Lakeland Central School District in Westchester County, New York. Our team developed one of the first model special education programs in New York State.
