About Neal Thompson

As a journalist and nonfiction author I've learned to ask the right questions, earn people's trust, hone relationships, deliver on deadline. A pivot to disruptive Amazon taught me to work at speed and at scale, to develop strategy based on data and metrics, to lead and innovate collaboratively across teams, with a clear eye on equity and outcomes. I’m mission-driven and results-oriented; curious and scrappy; experienced in building/leading creative programs, projects, and teams; a thought leader and public speaker with national media and podcast experience.I left Amazon in 2020 to pursue personal projects, including my sixth book, “The First Kennedys: The Humble Roots of a Dynasty,” which published in 2022. I also taught creative nonfiction at Seattle's Hugo House; launched a newsletter, Blood & Whiskey, on Substack (crime fiction book reviews, cocktails, author interviews, playlists); started writing for the award-winning podcast American History Tellers; while also freelancing, consulting, and researching a new book project. My mission remains the same: I'm a passionate storyteller (author, journalist, podcaster) who celebrates and uplifts the stories of others (reviewer, editor, teacher, grant maker). Everyone has a story – individuals, companies, nonprofits – and wants their story to be heard. I believe researching, reporting, writing and reading stories are exercises in curiosity and empathy, that well-told stories in all formats are vital for a functioning democracy. Stories have the power to educate, inspire, entertain -- to make the world a better place. Nurturing storytelling, amplifying unheard voices, helping writers create and thrive remains at the core of what drives me and what I do best. In late 2023 I embarked on a search for innovative opportunities to leverage my unique skill set somewhere near a nexus of storytelling, publishing, editing, grant making, nonprofits, tech, journalism, philanthropy, literary arts, equity, and community.

Listed skills include Deep Understanding Of Publishing Industry, Manage Creative Properties And Brand, Website Management, Photo And Video Shooting And Editing, and 43 others.
