Hello!! I am Nebu Cherian Abraham, a dedicated social worker committed to improving the lives of individuals, families and societies facing challenges. With 8 years of experience in social work, I specialize in supporting people with disability, mental health challenges, and focus on the development of the community. My Journey in social work began with a deep belief in the power of empathy and advocacy. Through my experience at Sandesh, India I had the privilege to support and work for people with intellectual and profound disability. From my position as a Direct Support Worker in KW Habilitation, I have supported individuals with their activities of daily living and helped them to be the best that they could in their day-day life. Also, this is the place were I have started my social work journey in Canada.My current work role as a Part-time Frontline Support Worker at Services and housing in the province (SHIP) is also taking me through an exciting journey in Canada, were I am providing help and frontline support to 60+ residents in the shelter home with their needs. I work closely with the Mental Health and addictions team in providing care and thereby initiating harm reduction at the shelter among individuals. Adding to it, I also have the opportunity to work along with Anchor Rehabilitation and Support Services Inc as a Behavior Respite Worker (ON-Call) in providing care and support for individuals in their day-day life. I hold a Post Graduate Certificate from Conestoga College, Canada on Management in Community Services. This course has helped me to gain organization management skills. I have a Post Graduation in Master of Social Work, with a specialization in Medical and Psychiatry from St Josephs College, Bangalore, India. In this program, I honed my skills in counselling, crisis intervention, case management and research. I always seek opportunities to expand my knowledge and stay focused.Beyond my professional endeavors, I am actively involved in volunteering with Region of Waterloo that enhances my social skills and learning around the community.I am looking forward to connect and engage with all in this platform to share insights and explore opportunities to create meaningful change together.
