Programmer

CEO and programmer

Sep 2011 - Present

Sr Software Engineer

San Francisco, Ca

Built a 3D engine from scratch for researching novel reconstruction of 3D scenes from a single 2D photograph. Moved our findings onto Autodesk's standard in-house rendering system for research purposes. Learned about OpenGL, shaders, and raytracing techniques.

Jan 2013 - Oct 2013

Engineer

Irvine, Ca

Made heavy modifications to Karem’s FlightLab models. Integrated the FlightLab flight dynamics model with a Simulink control system to produce a realtime pilot-in-the-loop simulation. Architected a software framework that allowed the same software to run on desktop PCs, baremetal ARM processors, and the Integrity RTOS running on a PowerPC. Heavily involved in the design and implementation of a messaging protocol used to connect these various platforms, along with GUI applications for logging and graphing data sent over this protocol. Used VAPS XT to design a next-generation pilot interface, and deployed this application to a PowerPC running Integrity with an embedded graphics card. Helped to design a workflow where the aircraft model and control system were run against software-style unit tests to detect and prevent regressions in model fidelity and controller performance.

Jun 2009 - Dec 2012

Undergraduate Researcher

Jhu Apl / Mit Mers Lab

Laurel, Md

Designed and implemented a priority-based hardware sharing system which allowed multiple agents (some remote and some local) to monitor and control a single piece of hardware for JHU. This was flight-tested on RC-scale autopilot-controlled flying wing hardware. I took measurements of the JHU hardware and constructed an identical testbed when I returned to MIT. However, I was unable to procure an autopilot due to ITAR restrictions. To get around this, I built a flight simulator to model the flying wing, wrapped it with an autopilot with a message format that faked the autopilot used by JHU, and used this setup to continue development of autonomous agents that used the hardware sharing system. Coordinated continued development on the hardware sharing system between MIT and JHU.

Jun 2008 - Jun 2009

Undergruate Researcher

Mit Humans And Automation Lab

Boston, Ma

Implemented TRACS 2.5D, a program that graphically represents the decision making process of a human user interacting with an automated system. Developed Hidden Markov Model training schemes and HMM visualizations to evaluate progress.

Feb 2007 - May 2008

Intern

Boeing Concept Exploration (Frontier Systems)

Worked in several capacities on the A160T Hummmingbird. Added actuator to existing tail rotor test rig, all the way from parts acquisition to installation to data acquisition to control software for the actuator. Did some work in flight telemetry data analysis, including identifying a whole class of anomalies as magnetic interference from the Earth's field; subsequently wrote software to compensate for the anomalies. Main assignment was an automated health monitoring neural network that analyzes existing data to define the nominal state, and then warns anytime the helicopter leaves this state and provides data helpful to analyzing the anomaly. Also participated in ground testing as both operator and telemetry monitor.
