Graduate Research Assistant
M.Tech. Thesis : Synthesis and Evaluation of Fe doped Mo2C for Electro-oxidation of dissolved sulphur dioxide. (Dec 2015 -July2017) • Mentored by Dr Raj Ganesh S. Pala • The Project was completed at the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, as a part of MTech Thesis work. • It involved the rational design of non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts for aqueous SO2 electrolysis (electrochemical step in water splitting for hydrogen generation). • TMC-based electrocatalysts, as a class of special ‘‘interstitial alloys’’, are interesting because of their advantageous physical and chemical properties, including their precious-metal-like electronic structures, high electrical conductivities, excellent stabilities, and good corrosion resistance• Iron doped molybdenum carbide nanomaterials based electrocatalysts were synthesized using a unique amine–metal oxide composite method.• Physicochemical properties were elucidated by various analytical characterization techniques like XRD, SEM, EDX, TGA-DSC and FTIR to study crystal structure, morphology, thermal stability and composite to carbides formation.• The electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, and linear sweep voltammetry to determine catalytic activity upon addition of a second metal into the lattice of molybdenum carbide, with the probable mechanism under operation addressed by analysis of Tafel plots.
