As Workiva's first employment lawyer, I support our Human Resources function and other cross functional teams and businesses, with a primary focus on helping build and improve global processes and policies, and evaluating and implementing employment and labor relations strategies worldwide. I further provide employment-related support for the company's M&A activities; and advise on all aspects of labor and employment regulations, policies and practices throughout the entire employee lifecycle.

Provided strategic advice and support to business partners in order to manage risk, identify opportunities, and deliver on business priorities. Core responsibilities included:• Reviewing reengineering and reductions in force, severance terms, performance management, and violation of non-compete and other restrictive covenants• Overseeing internal investigations based on the conduct of employees (e.g., discrimination, harassment, violations of policy)• Reviewing and advising on internal policies such as PTO, leaves of absence, code of conduct, background checks (SME), arbitration, drug testing, and progressive discipline• Ensuring compliance with employment laws and advising on internal processes• Advising on matters related to recruiting and hiring practices, employment discrimination, harassment, EEOC and OFCCP compliance, FMLA and ADA, and affirmative action regulations• Advising on legal issues related to benefit and compensation programs• Working with business partners to implement diversity and inclusion initiatives across the organization• Overseeing employment litigation/arbitration by managing outside counsel, DOL wage and hour issues, government investigations, and administrative agency charges
