About Neeraj Mishra

Senior Process Engineer| Expert in Graphene Growth, van der Waals Heterostructures, and 2D Materials | Passionate About Optoelectronic Applications.I am deeply fascinated by the potential of van der Waals heterostructures and their applications in optoelectronics. My research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of two-dimensional heterostacks, which hold immense promise for developing transparent and flexible devices of the future.Over the past 10 years, I have honed my expertise in graphene synthesis on both metallic and insulating substrates, including Cu foil, SiC, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), and sapphire (Al₂O₃). I am highly skilled in advanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques, utilizing systems such as the AIXTRON-Black Magic cold wall reactor, and a range of state-of-the-art characterization tools like:-Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)-Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM)-Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)-Raman SpectroscopyCurrently, I am a senior process Engineer at Camgraphic srl, Pisa, Italy. My role is to synthesize high-quality graphene for photonic devices. I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation (CNI), Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia @ NEST, working under the guidance of Dr. Camilla Coletti. My research focuses on growing monolayer graphene on dielectric substrates (e.g., h-BN, sapphire) using CVD. I had achieved significant milestones, including:-Successfully growing monolayer graphene on sapphire without metal catalysts.-Scaling this technique to 6-inch wafers in collaboration with AIXTRON, which developed a production-scale reactor (CCS 2D MOCVD) for graphene and other 2D materials.-Refining polycrystalline and single-crystal graphene growth on copper foil.-Developing efficient graphene wet and semi-dry transfer methods and pioneering PVA-lamination/gold-assisted techniques for transferring graphene from sapphire.- Industrial applicationGraphene growth on copper wire for low voltage and corrosion restistance.-Additionally, I have extensive experience in the thermal decomposition method for graphene growth on silicon carbide (SiC) and am proficient in cleanroom operations, including graphene transfer and UV/electron-beam lithography. As a dedicated researcher with a passion for advancing science from lab to fab, I am driven to apply my skills to develop scalable, real-world solutions. I am eager to collaborate on cutting-edge projects that push the boundaries of material science and technology.Let’s connect to discuss how we can shape the future 2D materials!

I am currently working in the Center of Nanotechnology Innovation (CNI), Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia @ NEST, Pisa, Italy as a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Camilla Coletti's group, where my topic is to grow Graphene on dielectric materials like hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and Sapphire (Al2O3) by the CVD method and its characterization. I have successfully grown the monolayer graphene on sapphire without using any metal catalyst. This project is scaled up to grow up to 6-inch wafers in collaboration with AIXTRON. In addition, for this, AIXTRON manufactured a production scale reactor (CCS 2D MOCVD) for the large-scale growth of graphene and other 2D materials. Also, I have experience with the growth of polycrystalline and Single crystal graphene on copper foil. In addition, I am very good at Graphene transfer from copper metal by wet and semi-dry transfer methods. Also, I can easily transfer the Graphene from sapphire by using the PVA-Lamination/Gold assisted technique. Apart from this, I have very good experience in growing graphene on Silicon carbide (SiC) by the thermal decomposition method in the high-temperature Black Magic CVD reactor. Also, I worked on an industrial project where I used to grow few-layer graphene on low voltage copper wire to increase its conductivity and protection from corrosion. The aim is to grow graphene on copper wire that we use for electricity so that we decrease the cost and increase the life of copper wire by protecting them from corrosion and maintaining enhanced electrical conductivity over time. I am comfortable and experienced working in a clean room environment for Graphene transfer and electron beam and UV lithography.
