Quantitative Researcher, Developer & TraderSelf-Employed Mar 2022 - Present1) Built a custom C++ multi-threaded back-testing engine for algorithmic trading. In 24 hours, it is able to collect results of 64 million trading strategies over 15 years of 1-minute candlestick bar data on a 8-CPU rack server.2) Bought a used rack server from eBay with 8 AMD Epyc CPUs. I installed and configured it along with a database server and 10G network in my garage. To reduce the electricity bill, I installed custom water-cooling loop on all the CPUs. This was a fun project. :)3) Developed and implemented a framework in C++ to generate quantitative trading strategies automatically without any user input. This framework automatically comes up with new trading strategies, back-tests them using walk forward optimization on 15 years of data and stores results in Clickhouse database. This code is running 24/7 on my rack server in the garage and is giving me about 100 new strategies a day.4) Developed a machine learning algorithm in Python and Pandas to select which strategies from the ones obtained in the above step should be traded for the next year.5) Am able to create a portfolio with Sharpe ratio (mean return divided by standard deviation of return) of 1.5. My goal is to get to a Sharpe ratio of at least 2 and I have a lot of ideas on how to get there. For reference, Sharpe ratio of Nasdaq and S&P500 are around 0.7-0.8. In other words, my portfolio is able to generate almost double the return for similar volatility.
