One to two days per week I provide mental health services that include psycho-educational groups and 1:1 counseling for incarcerated inmates, both male and female. The groups cover such topics as understanding and dealing with symptoms of PTSD; putting your past behind you; how to deal with anger; domestic violence, unhelpful beliefs and how they ruin your life; you are not your behavior; reentry; and much more. In the facilitation of these groups and in 1:1 contacts I utilize principles of multiple approaches including person-centered, CBT, REBT, solution-oriented, problem solving, reality-based, and therapeutic. Paramount to my approach is that inmates are treated like human beings, rather than as criminals.
