As an urban climatologist, I’m interested in the ways the built environment interacts with the climate, and in return, how urban dwellers are affected by this interaction. In particular, I focus on urban heat and air quality and follow two main tracks in my research. The first is enabling climate-conscious design for climate-resilient cities – How can we have a human-centric urban design that is in harmony with the local climate? I tackle this question using numerical modeling and IoT sensor technologies such as wearables. My second research focus is on multiscale urban climate modeling. My goal is to develop modeling techniques that impact not only the climate analyses in the scientific community but also enable architects, planners, and policymakers to incorporate comprehensive, accurate, yet efficient assessments of urban design.I am also passionate about promoting and advocating for women in academia as well as contributing to the Urban Climate community. I serve as a member of the Board on the Urban Environment at the American Meteorological Society as well as the International Association for Urban Climate. Furthermore, I am the UNSW Gender equity co-champion and represent the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture at the Women in Research Network (WiRN) committee.See climate-resilientcities.com if you're interested to join our lab and work on the cross-section of urban climatology, data science, and urban design.

Member, Board On Urban EnvironmentAmerican Meteorological Society Sep 2017 - Dec 2023United StatesThe purpose of the Board on Urban Environment is to: - Provide a focal point for those working in urban climatology and other fields related to the meteorology of urban environments.- Raise awareness of issues in atmospheric science and technology that apply to the urban environment.- Give advice to the Society in matters concerning urban meteorology.- Participate in and organize scientific meetings and symposia to stimulate further research and clarify pertinent problems. -
Scientia Senior Lecturer / Assistant ProfessorUnsw Jul 2021 - PresentI'm an academic at UNSW Built Environment and my research centers around urban climatology. I lead the Climate-Resilient Cities research lab that aims to tackle heat exposure and air quality in our cities using various methodologies (ranging from climate models to wearables and IoT-based sensors).See climate-resilientcities.com if you're interested to join our lab and work on the cross-section of urban climatology, data science, and urban design. -

Executive Committee, Women In Research NetworkUnsw Jan 2019 - Jun 2021Sydney, AustraliaThe data shows that there are more than enough qualified women in higher education who can fill available leadership and senior positions, and women are being prepared at a greater rate than men. But they are not often seen at the top of an organization. Why? I believe that the Recognition Gap - a glaring gap in how the academic community recognizes the work of women versus men - is a big contributor. To have gender equity in academia, it’s crucial to not only get more women in the door, but also retain them by recognizing their efforts and promoting them to senior positions. This vision is the foundation of my role at UNSW Women in Research Network. -
