I started out I the NHS as an Ambulance cadet at 16 learning about all aspects of Service delivery as well as the wider health and emergency services. From this I progressed through Technician and qualified as a Paramedic in 1999. within the Ambulance Service I carried out a number of roles working on Frontline Ambulances and Rapid Response Vehicles and secondments to operational Manager roles. I also undertook specialist roles in this time working on both HEMS and HART. Within HART I was lucky enough to train as a Swift-water Rescue Instructor and spent a year as a Team Leader. In 2015 I gained a PG Cert in Emergency Planning, Response and Resilience which made me realise I was capable of higher education study but that I missed the hands on clinical role I had enjoyed so much. this led to my taking a very difficult decision to leave the Ambulance Service after more than 21 years to seek out a new path. This was in the guise of a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner post at HEFT initially in Ambulatory Emergency Care and some Acute Medicine time but I missed the sharp end. An opportunity to complete this training within Emergency Medicine came up and so I took it. I am now an ACP in Emergency Medicine, one of the first Paramedic Independent Prescribers in the UK. currently am working towards both RCEM credentialing and completing the final project for my MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Warwick. Away from work I love anything fantasy or science fiction be it books/movies and taking part in outdoor sports, particularly snowboarding, kite-surfing and kayaking.
