Employed as an Engineering & Safety Co-ordinator for the ‘A282 (M25) Fastrack Bridge and Approaches’ project. Working closely with Senior Project Managers and Engineers, the main focus of the role was to ensure that multi-disciplined works were carried out in accordance with master project plans and to ensure that management of contractors was controlled compliantly with regards to health & safety regulations, contractual requirements and detailed programming.Specific activities included the production of risk assessments and associated method statements, safety toolbox talks, weekly safety inspections and management of permit systems for digging, pumping, hot working and lifting plans. In a site supervisory capacity, particular attention was paid to contractor’s safe methods of working and approval processes for their safety submissions. Periodic topic audits were undertaken in various disciplines as a control measure to ensure compliance.Monthy QUENSH audits undertaken to ensure that sub contractors were working in compliance with current legislation. Weekly liaison with project management team to ensure that works is progressing in accordance with project plan. Management of sub contract plant and labour requirements producing 4 weekly forecast for future requirements reporting directly to the project manager. Liaison with the bridge access authorities to ensure that all sub contractors were managed in accordance with departmental security policies

1993 – 2005 Eurotunnel Services LimitedFrom initially joining as a Shuttle Driver, subsequent positions included Technical Advisor, Development Standards & Training Manager, with the final role undertaken being Works Train Manager/Duty Technical Manager.Duties included the day to day management of all works train activities including line management of a team of both UK and French drivers. This would involve the creation and implementation of rosters to cover all planned maintenance activities in the running tunnels, task observations and competence management, formulation of training needs, training plans and delivery of training as part of driver’s ongoing development. In addition, all required standards, procedures, risk assessments and method statements were produced and updated as the operational environment developed.An important element of the role was to undertake incident/accident investigation where members of the department were involved and to liaise with corporate departments so that recommendations could be implemented to avoid repeat occurrences. During this period, there was also a requirement to cover the role of Duty Technical Manager that took responsibility for technical based decisions in conjunction with the rail and traffic control centres. The DTM had to ensure that all trains were fit for commercial use and would manage the interface with the Rolling Stock Department for train changes with regards to planned and unplanned maintenance. The DTM was also the interface with the national railways for any degraded operations involving their rolling stock.
