I became very interested in the potential of the internet. The internet was in its infancy - when one page took minutes to download, a frame at a time - remember?!I was eager to explore the opportunities the internet presented Select Education, and was given the first opportunity to design and implement a website and online strategy for Select Education. The learning curve was very steep, but it was both exciting, engaging and rewarding! The hard work paid off and this culminated in being awarded the 'Winner of Best New Website' award from the international parent group.

Responsible for opening and developing a network of offices in the early days of teaching agencies.I initially joined Select Appointments Plc who were in the process of opening their first Select Education offices in England. I moved across to the Education division and joined Bob Wicks. With Select Education, I 'earned my spurs' by stabilising the Manchester office, and then opening Newcastle, which became the 'Best New Office'. I was then promoted to become Select Education's first Regional Manager and opened the Hull and Sheffield offices, as well as overseeing Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool.These were exciting times and it was a real thrill to be pioneering and concept selling a fantastic service to schools. The obstacles were many (strong opposition from the Unions and LEA's), yet we grew Select Education into the largest and most successful teaching agency in the UK.

I had just qualified as teacher in the UK and I was keen to spread my wings and teach abroad. The Berlin wall had not long been down and East Germany (Chemnitz) was an incredible and unusual place to begin my teaching career!The opportunity to teach Russians, Czechoslovakians, and East Germans at this time presented me with an unforgettable learning experience.
