Farm Up Jamaica Ltd, filed as a U.S. non-profit organization and got its 501(c)(3) status July of 2013. It’s mission is to help reduce the importation of foreign food into Jamaica, increase Jamaican exports, create employment and entrepreneurship, help stomp out poverty and reduce crime, by putting idle hands to idle lands.We quickly assessed that young Jamaicans would need to pick up their forks and hoes in order for Jamaica to recover. Assuming the position of CEO made it very important to understand the inner workings on the ground and would have Neil in Jamaica an average of six (6) months out of a year.Over the last seven years Neil has been able to create Organic Climate Smart Solutions that help to streamline organic farming. His achievements as CEO include:- Reducing the growth time of organic food - Increasing the size of organic vegetables - Inspiring and training over 600 youth in Organic Climate Smart Agriculture - Creating an Agri-Tourism Model that expands the possibilities of current Jamaican Tourism.- Creating new supply chains in-country and in the export markets- First to Internationally Certify Organic Jamaican Turmeric and Ginger- Reduced water usage by 2/3 in crop production - Creating Organic pest control to combat some of the most treacherous insects affecting farmers crops- Building the Worlds First Climate-Smart Institute to train visitors in Organic Sustainable Climate Smart Agriculture. Very popular in the early 1900s, Vaudevillians would frequent what was know as Al B. Whites. The local bar where actors would exhale from their vigorous live appearances around the country. Guy Lombardo was god father to at least one of Al. B White’s children. Whites expanded and became a famous steak house in and throughout the 1960s and 70s and closed thereafter. Neil Curtis Purchased the building Around 1996 and leased the space out for many years. In 2008 he reconstructed and redesigned the building. Retro Opened it’s doors in 2009 and quickly became a hit. The location’s history of celebrity and culinary flare led Neil to hire a Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen Chef, Nilka Hendricks. Because of his history in catering and the kitchen, Neil was able to sit with Nilka and mutually design a menu that would knock patron’s socks off. So, entrees like Jerk Rib Eye Steak, Coconut Crusted King Crab Legs or Linguine in a Yellow Clam Sauce would keep people coming back. Retro Live Jazz Sunday’s and Comedy Wednesday are the vivid memories of many patrons who, to this day, await the reopening of this iconic location. Show less
