Born and raised on Manitoulin Island, my voice has always been the outdoors. A father, husband, educator, and business owner I like to keep myself busy by sharing in what the outdoors has to offer. We are proud of our First Nation (Anishnabek) heritage and hold the values instilled in the 7 Teachings of Love, Respect, Honesty, Truth, Humility, Bravery, and Wisdom very closely.With over 2 decades in the education field, as teacher, Principal, and Education Director in both elementary and secondary schools on reserve and off, we consult with those looking for insight into how they can improve their system and create better outcomes for students. Currently, LFEC works alongside many First Nations with the First Nations with Schools Collective as they develop and lobby for the negotiation of a new federal funding formula for First Nation's that will allow favourable outcomes for the learners they serve. LFEC also works with The Learning Bar in New Brunswick in capacity development and sales as they improve literacy and achievement in schools across Canada. LFEC is also closely tied to the Systemic Gap Analysis Project with the Chiefs of Ontario as they research the reasons behind the achievement gap in many First Nation Communities.In 2004, with my wife, Dianne, I started a tourism business called Island Sunrise Cottages on Manitoulin Island. A lakeside cottage rental business that specializes in providing clients with high quality, private vacation experiences that allows visitors to experience the Island in a unique way. Private fishing excursions to chase salmon and trout on the south shore of the island or a picturesque tour of the North Channel for a pan-fish, shore lunch excursion are options for guests. Glamping (glamorous camping) in one of our RV rentals is also an option.Tourism, bringing people into the outdoors and encouraging them to follow their passion and chase their dreams eventually led us into the realm of television production when we started Fuel the Fire TV Productions Inc in 2015. The production company produces a show for The Sportsman Channel Canada airing nationally on all satellite TV carriers like Bell and Shaw. The television show, Fuel the Fire TV, follows our adventures as we spend time with family and friends harvesting animals for food. We share our recipes, our passion for conservation, tips for success and where people can go to do this for themselves. The program is entering its 8th season in 2024 and has over 90 episodes to date.I am passionate about education, sports, the outdoors and food sovereignty.
