Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) are made up of volunteers who visit secure establishments and meet with the children to help monitor aspects of their life in custody, such as living conditions. They monitor to ensure that standards are maintained, identify concerns and issues, and discuss these at board meetings and recommend actions. It makes no difference where you come from or what you do, as long you are over 18 years old and are willing to make a difference.Being an IMB member is likely to take up an average of two to three days per month of your time, although this can vary slightly depending on your local board and the size and nature of the establishment it monitors.Board members also play an important role in dealing with problems inside the establishment. If a prisoner or detainee has an issue that they have been unable to resolve through the usual internal channels, they can put in a confidential request to see a member of the IMB. Problems might include concerns over lost property, visits from family or friends, special religious or cultural requirements, or even serious allegations such as bullying.

  • University Of South Wales
    Visiting Lecturer - Ma Sen/Aln
University Of South Wales Nov 2018 - Present
    Newport, United Kingdom
Asked by the faculty to deliver an annual lecture thus far on lived experiences on the MA in SEN. The essence of this teaching is to ensure that the students have access to the most valuable experience, story told from a real life example, and also be clear on how sometimes, our inner prejudices, those within our subconscious can sneak forward into your daily practice. It is taught on how this is percieved by the participant e.g. SEN Pupil. The specialism I have for a more specific family and systemic psychotherapy roles, having been trained systemically, I also where possible, look to include systems theory and how one interacts with another, and when problems occur, demonstrating their meaning as two organised entities (systems) have collided/clashed due to differing viewpoints or opinion as the other, and we can either destroy that network or, find common ground in and around what can be achieved. The MA Students normally find such teaching to be of great significance, and does have the element which makes you question who is right or wrong? What is the correct way and what is considered the poorer avenue?
