Based at AECI Mining in South Africa, I hold the position of Senior Director: Sustainability and EHS. I have 34 years experience, which started in plant maintenance, before transferring into the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality function. I've worked across multiple parts of the value chain, including underground and surface mining, gas exploration, construction, chemical and explosives production, site services, product transportation and the corporate head office. I have undertaken work in 13 countries.Following specialist training in Behavioural Science I spent many of my initial years consulting internally on Behaviour Based Safety solutions, to drive down injury rates and severity, and improve workplace safety practices and culture. I transferred into my first corporate role in 2007, to focus primarily on Process Safety, Occupational Safety, Behavioural Safety and Incident Investigation. In 2017 I returned to where my career started, namely AECI to take up the position of Group SHE Manager, leading the development and implementation of the Zero Harm Strategy. In 2024 I transferred to the Mining Business of AECI to take up my current role further developing and executing the HSE Strategy in support of existing operations and the growth aspirations internationally.I am a Chartered Member of of the South African Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (CMSAiosh). I hold a B-Tech degree in Safety Management from the University of South Africa and I have vast experience in SHE and Quality management systems including OHSAS18001, ISO14001, ISO 9000 and Process Safety Management.
