Scales from grams to multi-kilo’s.• Responsibilities also include technical liason and custom synthesis report writing. 1999-2008 UCB Pharma (formally Celltech), Process R & D Group, Granta Park, Cambridge.• Principal chemist and technical project manager for a number of pre-clinical and early development stage NCE small-molecule projects.• Successfully led a small team of chemists responsible for the timely preparation and multi-kilo supply of early phase drug candidates, prepared to appropriate quality standards, for toxicological evaluation. • Responsibilities also included the scale-up and technical transfer of intermediate and API processes, manufactured to both GLP and cGMP, to external CMO’s in the UK and Europe.• Line management responsibility for up to four Ph.D and graduate chemists including career and professional development, objectives setting, continual appraisal and constructive feedback.• Cross-site collaborations with multi-function teams including Kilo Laboratory and Non-Clinical Development based in Belgium and Medicinal Chemistry groups in Belgium, Cambridge & Slough.• Responsiblities also included the supply of advanced intermediates to UCB’s on-going Medicinal Chemistry programs, the re-synthesis of active metabolites, salt selection studies and solid state evaluation of potential drug candidates.1993-1999 Senior Scientist, Process R & D, Chiroscience, Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge.• Principally responsible for route scouting/selection activities leading to the scale-up and manufacture, to cGMP, of multi-kilo API for phase 1a and phase 1b clinical use, in both the kilo lab and pilot plant. • Acquired good understanding of cGMP process documentation including the preparation of batch sheets, quality plans, process change control and critical parameter analysis.• Collaborated with the Pharmaceutical Sciences department in developing analytical product methodology (particularly HPLC and G.C.).• Active member of a multi-disciplinary team which was responsible for the preparation of chiral synthons via classical and enzymatic resolution.1990-1993 Process Development Chemist - Revertex Chemicals, Harlow.• Responsible for the laboratory preparation of fine chemical intermediates for the flavour and fragrance industry and scale-up and tech transfer of processes, prepared to cGMP, to external CMO’s.
