Working in Jarosław, Poland, I was one of three senior managers at this small Polish start-up charity, which runs collective shelters for Ukrainian refugee women and children. As Program Director, I supervised communications, NGO and donor relations, legal and finance.Key NGO partners included International Organization for Migration (an agency of the UN), Action Against Hunger, Première Urgence Internationale, CORE Response and All Hands and Hearts. I negotiated MoUs, supervised implementation of projects (totalling over $1m in funding), and led on reporting and dispute resolution.Our communications strategy saw Poland Welcomes featured by BBC Breakfast, BBC World News, CNN, LBC, Sky News, The Sun, the Daily Mirror, the Daily Express and MSN (not to mention our charity single with Clark Datchler from Johnny Hates Jazz).I implemented monthly financial reporting for Poland Welcomes, developed an ethical governance framework and liaised with international donors (including high-net-worth individuals and family foundations).Refugee protection is a key principle of humanitarian aid, and I drove the development of Poland Welcomes's protection work (including a protection helpdesk for all refugees, and mental health services).
