• Research topic: Analysis of the Characteristics of the Acetylcholine Binding Protein• Extracted acetylcholine-binding protein after isolating the DNA to prepare the binding head of the protein• Determined the protein’s characteristics by utilizing quantitative and qualitative tests such gel assays to determine the binding characteristics and strength of the measles virus to standard ligands• Performed standard laboratory procedures in order to purify and extract ligands such as centrifugation and distillation.

Research topic: Analysis of the Characteristics of the Acetylcholine Binding ProteinProfessor: Dr. Marvin SchulteAlpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors can bind to both nicotine and acetylcholine. These receptors are made up of 5 different subunits, acetylcholine binding proteins being the site where acetylcholine binds to the receptors. In the lab, we will be extracting the acetylcholine binding protein after isolating the DNA to prepare the binding head of the protein. We will then determine the protein’s characteristics such as its quantity, and run a gel assay to analyze its binding to standard ligands such as the measles virus.
