Responsible for the leadership and operation of Walkers Snacks Manufacturing plants in Skelmersdale and Quaker Oats plant in Cupar.

Leadership of the sector maintenance & reliability engineering agenda across all of PepsiCo European food and snacks facilities. Strategy development,capability build and collaboration with sector leadership to ensure optimal asset performance.Providing technical, functional and business leadership to maximise the value derived.

Define and align UK operations sites and leadership to maintenance strategy and provide technical, functional and business leadership of the UK maintenance agenda to maximise the value derived from maintenance. Enabling UK Operations to deliver agreed maintenance requirements and goals through the technical team accountabilities of strategy, governance, capability and response. Collaboration with Sector maintenance leadership and Technical Services to ensure aligned strategies.

To Lead and manage new innovative “breakthrough” engineering solutions to significantly contribute to the delivery of a minimum of $70mm transformational productivity across the Europe sector over the 3 year strategic plan horizon. This role was primarily targeting the process (materials conversion) and energy (utilities) areas for Snacks & Beverages with key focus on productivity opportunities within Snacks packaging.

Site Engineering Manager during site start up following acquisition. As part of the Site Senior team leading the engineering function on the journey to World Class maintenance. Continuously improving the availability of equipment to be able to manufacture quality products in a safe and cost effective way. Utilising modern maintenance techniques and procedures as well as a good working operational knowledge of a manufacturing ensuring quick reaction to daily business needs and be able to balance this against dedicating an appropriate amount of time and energy to developing improvement strategies and action plans.Major deliverables in role include:Leading Skelmersdale site to be highest ranked manufacturing site within PepsiCo UK and European portfolio in AMIS, PEMM, Electrical and Control System Audits.Increase in PM Compliance from 65% to 93%.Savings of > £200m versus AOP for site R&M / Labour spend Planned versus reactive ratio from 40/60 to 64/36Inventory stock holding reduction of > £500m to less than 1.4% of CARV Site delivered AIB audit score of + 820 Skelmersdale received PIUK European Sustainability award for 2009

A role to manage a transformation project moving all craft into aligned production teams. Assessment, development and implementation of training plans for Craft & Technicians, support to production management to allow easier integration into team working conditions. Technical support to all craft, technicians & production personnel. Development of overhaul scopes, planning and implementation of revenue & capital projects. Key support to Line improvement teams.Direct Reports (22)Engineering budget accountability £1.4m During this employment I was one of only 12 engineers authorised to operate / maintain the High Voltage Network and associated Switchgear at the Kitt Green plant.

An eighteen-month secondment to act as electrical technician for the Kitt Green factory to advise/liase during major relocation of equipment to facilitate the transfer of Pasta production from London to Wigan.Installation of new Manufacturing, Filling, Sterilising & Packaging lines to handle increased volumes.Extensive European travel to liaise with suppliers to drive exacting standards and to ensure the installation was in accordance with an original FDS/URS. This project is now complete and producing up to 8 million cans a week.

Full EITB/NVQ recognized apprenticeship, initially starting with a 1 year basic full time engineering course including milling, turning bench fitting sheet metal work, electrical installations, c.n.c machines.A four year apprenticeship working in all areas of food manufacturing including can making, manufacturing, filling, sterilising & packaging. Technical training undertaken on all high-speed production lines within the Kitt green factory. Battery Garage, Fork Lift truck repairs. Involvement with Technical operations project engineers on new installations within the manufacturing facility.Shift maintenance technician responsible for all breakdowns on production lines & preventative maintenance tasks on plant machinery. Installation & commissioning of new equipment, fault finding on Siemens S5 & Klockner Moeller PLC’S. Also covering the supervision and control of a team of electricians and Instrument Mechanics during the reactive breakdowns and pro-active preventative maintenance shifts, liaison with engineering & production management. Technical support to all craft during production shifts.
