Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology with 38+ years experience within the Defence sector.I am pleased to have joined BAE Systems as a Principal Electronics engineer working on a diverse set of projects from legacy to modern electronic systems.My previous experience has been with Kent Modular Electronics (KME) as Head of Emerging Technology and Innovation where I introduced the latest emerging technologies and innovations into new and existing KME display technologies. I also diversified KME’s commercial offerings, using my understanding of defence digitisation programmes, to develop innovative ‘secure by design’ modular electronic systems that harness technologies that are emerging as part of the fourth industrial revolution, or as it is sometimes referred Industry 4.0. Previously to KME I was a Principal Electronics Engineer at Defence Science Technology Laboratory (DSTL), a UK Ministry of Defence executive agency, for just over 35 years. As Principal Engineer and Technologist, I focused on Innovation and Emerging Technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) / Internet of Battlefield Things (IoBT) / Internet of Military Things / Satellite IoT (SIoT) in support of UK MOD digitisation programmes. I was an advisor / point of contact for a number of specialist military units and senior MOD civil servants and have supported staff at top levels within UK Government. I have also chaired cross Govt research and development communities as well as supporting industry and academia through customer advisory boards. I have also sat on UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Governing Boards as a representative from DSTL. I managed projects as a Project Technical Authority (PTA) and was an assessor and moderator for DSTL' s Defence And Security Accelerator (DASA), as well as a technical partner for successful DASA bids. I have designed and developed ultra-low power electronic systems which naturally led me to focus on emerging IoT technologies for where for battery powered devices power consumption is key. Software Defined Radio (SDR) and applications of AI in the RF domain are areas that I track as well as 6G and Augmented/Virtual/Mixed Reality technologies which are going to be influential in the next 10 years. Quantum is another area that is ripe for exploitation and I have interests in that domain where I am named as the inventor for a patent for providing security resilience of IoT devices against the threat of emerging quantum computing.
