Loesche Gmbh, are the market leaders in the concreate, power, mining and renewable energy industries on the global stage. This innovative company who creates the grinding technologies has been at the fore front for over a hundred years. Loesche provides the engineering solutions for heavy plant installation. LES (Loesche Energy Systems) is the power industry and renewable energy arm of the group.My role within the company has two functions, mechanical design engineering, solid modelling and the creation of engineering drawings. Also checking and supporting colleagues drafting and SAP support.My primary responsibility is the SAP element of the design office; this role is solely maintained and managed by myself. Due to a full order book this has been my main focus. Upon joining the company in 2014 I was asked if I would be willing to take on this responsibility, to which I agreed as I saw this as new challenge. Through extensive training on site at the head office in Dusseldorf I quickly took charge of all the SAP master engineering data that is needed for the manufacture of a Loesche mill or classifier. My ability to learn quickly is noted in subsequent appraisals which I am proud of. This role can be stressful and like design requires a clear and concise approach and accuracy. SAP links all of the technical engineering information on this global network that is accessed by manufacturing, installation engineers and project managers. This is this the pinnacle of heavy engineering where single sub-assemblies weigh many tonnes which present a range of engineering problems that need to be overcome, to compound this the installations carried out are in power stations that are in remote and challenging areas of the world. LES have set up their own daughter company in India where I have had an active role in the infrastructure of SAP and have played a supporting role to the company.

Working in the busy tool room making new single and multi-impression injection mould tools manufactured for medical, aerospace and automotive industry. As well as the making of new mould tools from conception to finish I also maintain and set up the current tools that are in constant use in the mould shop. Modifications to mould tools and bespoke fixtures and tooling are also duties that I would carry out on a weekly basis.

Working in the R&D department of Mecmesin limited, my role was to improve current designs and also create special purpose designs to suit an application that may be required by any of the varied customer base. The designs are created using Solid Edge V20 and Solid Edge V21 3d parametric solid modelling software and converted into 2d engineering drawings. Drawing on my experience as a mechanical engineer the designs would have to factor all the requirements from application, time, and cost. Also as part of my role I managed a project for the redesign of many of the accessories that could be provided by the company which needed improvement.

Working in a UKAS accredited laboratory and managing in house calibration and customer contracts, also technical support for the onsite engineers. Calibration of many types of temperature and humidity instrumentation in accordance with strict UKAS calibration procedures. Constant maintenance and cross checks of all laboratory standards and site calibration equipment which is sub contracted to other calibration laboratories. All general office based skills, quotations, invoicing, general computing as well as technical duties within an electronic bias. A wide range of different types of software have to be understood in order to carry out the calibration process. Also I achieved UKAS signatory status within the company in less than two years.

Producing detailed engineering drawings for sub-contractors to manufacture electronic shells in high volumes and provide technical support. All the engineering drawings are produced using AutoCAD 2004 software. Also the day to day running of the drawing office issuing and filing drawings, sending out enquires for quotations for the manufacture of components. Communicating between the sales department and the managing director and provide the customer with all the required technical specifications. Sourcing new manufactures in Europe and Asia.

As an apprentice toolmaker I worked in a wide range of departments within the company. Over the five year period I developed an extensive range of engineering skills. As well as on the job training with mentors I also attended Crawley Technical College. The high level of accuracy required to produce injection mould tools would mean many years of training. The wide and diverse client base covers many industries. Also the tooling type can range from one impression to thirty two multi impressions, all of which would have very fine tolerances.
