General Assistant
While Focusing on my studies, I felt it conducive to remain in employment, but with a more flexible workload and structure to fit around my Course. To this end I pursued and was successful in securing a General Role within the General Merchandising Department. Utilising my former experience as a Team Leader I quickly became a focal point and source of knowledge and support for my fellow colleagues - who I continue to motivate and support as necessary- and recognised as a dependable asset for store management. I Support the Department Management Team in the day to day running of the department, with my previous experience allowing me to be delegated tasks and decision making not normally delegated to colleagues. This aids management in the running of the Department and Store as a whole and continues to challenge and develop my decision making skills.
Team Leader
I was brought into the department by the store manager to help smooth the running of the service counters which had a very high turnover rate and low satisfaction scores at the time due to poor training and lack of perceived support. While completing my in post Training I assumed responsibility for the Meat and Fish service counters, I also ran the rest of the department in the absence of my manager. ensuring that at all times they stayed compliant to industry and company guidelines around, food safety, traceability, hygiene standards and customer service.Through supporting, coaching, educating and training new starts to proficient levels, I was able to bring stability to the counters in my remit and place myself in the position to be able to support the other service counters with their issues. My key responsibility's were to ensure the department was trading legally and providing the best service and opportunities for our customers, by ensuring that training, inventory levels, manpower, and quality produce was always at appropriate levels. I also contributed to the running of the department as a whole with training, leadership and supervisory tasks including but not limited to, safe and legal checks, scheduling, induction and disciplinary action.
General Assistant (Responsible Colleague)
I was moved into the Grocery home delivery service in order to fix some process issues and for my own personal development. I was designated a responsible colleague and charged with running the department on weekends. I helped the department to regularly achieve No.1 status in the Region, Zone and Company for efficiency and customer satisfaction. Due to my hard work and reliability I was put forward for the 'You can be' development program and attended and undertook a number of courses and tasks to further my own development. Ultimately leading to promotion to a supervisory role in another department. My day to day tasks included dispatching of vans, assigning shopping and van runs to drivers and pickers, prioritising work loads, performing safe and legal checks, processing payments, troubleshooting and training new starts.
General Assistant
Seeking to eliminate my three hour round trip commute I applied for a position within the just built supermarket within my town. I was successful in my application and given a role within the instore bakery.During a very turbulent period for the department, with no manager and no team leader and a very high staff turnover. I was able to pick up roles outside my remit to smooth the running of the department where possible and support store management in keeping the department running. Often entailing copious amounts of overtime both paid and not, after several weeks with new hires and training the situation settled down and I was identified as a reliable and moved into another department requiring assistance.
Customer Service Assistant
Seeking an after school job I applied for a role within the customer service department, I was given a role within the car park, which included traffic management, trolley collection and assisting customers. Including a very memorable incident dealing with a customers car which caught fire within the carpark, which required liaison with the fire service and the customers recovery agent and ultimately organising the repair of the car park surface. After this incident I was identified as reliable and was moved to the Customer Service Desk and Kiosk where I was the public face of the company dealing with problems, issues, refunds, exchanges and phone calls. I spent three years in this customer facing role before I decided to attempt to eliminate my three hour commute.
