Neil served for many years as a partner and practice leader in the Canadian health care consulting practices of Price Waterhouse, PricewaterhouseCoopers and then IBM. Since retiring from IBM, much of his time has been devoted to volunteer roles in the health sector. Neil is a board member and board chair of Health Standards Organization. He also served as vice-chair of the Ontario Ministry of Health’s Task Force on Environmental Health. And before that he was on the boards of VON Canada (board chair), Cancer Care Ontario (board chair), The Change Foundation, the Ontario Hospital Association, Toronto East General Hospital (board chair), the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation and Patients Canada. Neil taught for several years in the University of Ottawa’s Masters of Health Administration program and until recently he held an adjunct appointment at the University of Toronto in its Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation (IHPME). He is a member of the “Stewardship Group” for IHPME’s Centre for Sustainable Health Systems. He also recently served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Longwoods’ Healthcare Quarterly.He received his PhD in health policy from Brandeis University where he was a fellow in the University's Heller School Health Policy Center. He previously graduated from Carleton University and the University of Nottingham. Before entering university, Neil worked for a year as a volunteer on a World Health Organization anti-malaria program in the West Pacific.
