Cmdb ArchitectTranscanada (Contract Through Cgi) Apr 2008 - Sep 2008- This has involved designing an optimal environment to perform component Discovery and reconciliation with Remedy while distributing the environment so that the data can be consumed and reported on.- Discovery technology includes BMC Foundation and Topology, SMS and SolarWinds.- CMDB technology is BMC Atrium and is integrated with BMC Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM).- I worked closely with TransCanada to understand their requirements, and consulted BMC regularly to understand the technology and identify license structure.- The resulting Infrastructure contains many pieces which include utilizing Discovery proxy servers in TransCanada’s field offices, consolidating the data centrally then synchronizing the data stores with CGI Regina where ITSM resides.- I proposed alternative designs to TransCanada and CGI Executives of which the recommended solution was accepted.- I am now currently involved with implementing the recommended solution.

Senior ConsultantCgi Dec 2006 - Sep 2008I have worn many hats in this position, and have been looked upon as a reliable resource. Most of the work has been focused on Performance Analysis, Planning & Design and recommending Event Monitoring technology. The major projects to this point include designing a CMDB, designing an R&D lab for the DBA team, Virtualizing current Operations (VMware) and the creation of a new revenue making service, Capacity Reporting. -
Senior ConsultantCgi Infrastructure Services Jan 2008 - Mar 2008- I have often been looked upon to provide expertise in troubleshooting performance issues. I was tasked with determining where there were bottlenecks within the Infrastructure. My analysis correlated metrics from the Infrastructure, Database and Network layers but revealed a gap in monitoring from a User Perspective.- I was asked to find a tool which provided response metrics from a User experience. I interpreted and documented the requirements of the potential tool and was able to come up with a ranking system.- I interviewed staff, performed research and sent inquiries to vendors which I have relationships with, to come up with a list of potential solutions.- Based on vendor demonstrations I ranked the products and presented my recommendations to the Management team. The tool was successful in POC, has been procured and is currently in use.- I have assisted the Infrastructure team in enabling alarms from HP Openview agents.

Senior ConsultantCgi Database Services Dec 2006 - Nov 2007- The Capacity Reporting service was conceived, proposed and implemented by myself and has been viewed as a “Value Add” service that complements CGI’s Database Services. - The focus of the service is to report, analyze and project on the capacity of the individual components that make up a computer system by collecting and summarizing metrics on key resources over a period of time.- The work involved with getting the Capacity Reporting service launched has included providing and documenting business requirements, providing detailed analysis, projecting revenues, running a “Proof of Concept”, strategizing sales, designing solution Infrastructure, obtaining Trial Period clients and developing the Capacity Reports.- As a result of having the Capacity Reporting Service available, I have been engaged to perform detailed Performance Analysis on critical Production systems.

Capacity ManagerNeteller Aug 2004 - Nov 2006- Identified, and monitored Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) of the physical and logical components. Based on historical data, I profiled and trended KPI’s from each processing stack and produced regular performance reports. These reports of Application, Network, Servers and Database systems included the DotCom Website, Exchange, BI and Global offices. - Provide guidance and recommendations for performance optimizations.- I was given a large initiative to evaluate and recommend an enterprise monitoring tool capable of tooling IT to manage to Service level commitments.- I started as first DBA for Neteller. Database systems grew from 5 SQL Instances to 35 instances with over 250 databases. Hired and led staff of 5 DBA’s to operate this environment until I transitioned to the Capacity Manager role.- As Neteller DBA I created a replicated database environment used by the BI team. This environment executes a regular batch schedule to populate an ODS and various Data Marts. -
Capacity ManagerNeteller, Calgary, Ab Aug 2004 - Nov 2006- I was focused on defining and executing best practice process and activities to provide quality service as identified by ITIL. It was my responsibility to identify, and then to monitor key performance indicators (KPI) of the critical components identified in the Service Catalogue. I used an iterative process of monitoring and profiling so we could strategize performance optimization and project capacity for upcoming initiatives. This process resulted in improved architecture which allowed IT to be able to measure performance and operate within agreed to Service Levels.- I was able to profile and trend each KPI in order to generate projection, availability and performance reports to Management and Executive staff. These reports were used for operational budgeting and input for new business initiatives.- I interacted with other ITIL Service Management processes such as Availability, Service Level Management, Configuration, Change, Problem and Incident Management.- I was given a large initiative to evaluate and recommend an enterprise monitoring tool capable of tooling the Service Management team to manage to service level commitments.- I had also been tasked with designing and populating a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to be integrated with the BMC Remedy system and participated as interim Configuration Manager.- I started as the first DBA for Neteller. The database systems quickly grew from 5 SQL Server Instances containing 30 databases to 35 instances with over 250 databases. I hired and led a staff of 5 DBA's to operate this environment.- I also built a replicated database environment used by the Business Intelligence team. This environment executes a regular batch schedule to populate an Operational Data Store and various Transaction Data Marts. Cognos Reportnet is being used as the reporting tool.
