Pleased to deliver yet again increasing revenues and assist in its ambition to deliver the world’s best geospatial information . Led the development and implementation of a new strategic plan to increase commercial income and deepen government relationships .During this time we supported a collaborative programme between utility companies in the North East of England, delivering a concept software platform to share underground asset data and facilitate work scheduling .The project was adopted by the Geospatial Commission and developed into their National Underground Asset Register programme . We announced our partnership with Intel Mobileye at CES 2019 for new low cost asset data capture using a vehicles onboard driver assist cameras supported by artificial intelligence through machine learning . We also introduced Astigan our High Altitude Pseudo Satellite programme in development since 2015 . OS deepened its presence internationally in Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai and built stronger relationships with many countries also committed to geospatial excellence.Appointed as one of two Geospatial Commissioners for the U.K representing the Geo6 partner bodies - The British Geological Survey , The Coal Authority, The Land Registry , UKHydrographic Office & The Valuation Office Agency.

Ordnance Survey is recognised as a world leader in the collection, maintenance and supply of high quality geospatial information and mapping. Throughout this period we invested significantly on AI and Machine learning for data capture and production automation.As Chief Operating Officer I was responsible for managing over 800 staff involved in the end to end delivery of OS's operations including the field data collection, data management, cartographic production and fulfllment and supply systems. This included leading the technology , software development teams and IS services delivering the world's most detailed and up-to-date geographic information , part of GB’s critical national data infrastructure.Especially skilled at both joining the dots and colouring them in.

I took over the leadership role as Acting Director General and CEO in April 2014 through an active period of change within the business and led the succesful vesting of Ordnance Survey into a 100% government owned limited company on 31st March 2015. This was alongside delivering increased growth in EBITDA (34%) on an increasing £140 million revenue line. In addition O.S successfully delivered its largest and most ambitious investment programme to date.We also started the Geovation Hub in Clerkenwell an innovation accelerator which has consequently supported nearly 150 businesses creating 1500 knowledge economy jobs . In support of this we released a powerful range of new purpose built Open Data products (Inc. OSOpenMap Local, OSOpenRivers ) .

Main board director responsible for all surveying and engineering operations at Ordnance Survey alongside the roles as Deputy CEO from 2012. I managed over 800 staff including nearly 400 surveyors/photogrammetrists and cartographers and over from 2012, 200 software engineers and IT support staff working in agile development and devops.The operations role oversaw the full supply chain including an additional 1000 production associates in India. This all allowed for the continuous revision of Great Britain & the maintenance of one of the the world's largest national geospatial databases. Delivering to the nation the supply of innovative geospatial products maintained to the highest standards.I led the teams supporting the collection and use of geospatial intelligence and products for the London 2012 Olympics across the security and public safety communities and 5i partners.

Geoplace is a joint venture between Ordnance Survey and Local Government (LGA) to create and maintain the definitive national address register for England & Wales and the National Street Gazeteer . Responsible for helping Trimble springboard out of the US setting up the technical team that introduced GPS into Europe, Middle East , Africa & India from a small office in Tonbridge, Kent.The role included both technical and new market development in the satnav, vehicle tracking , marine, survey, precision farming, GIS and construction application areas. This was during the companies fastest period of growth and included the successful selection of Trimble products by many industries and governments across the world.From 1995 onwards I took on the responsibility for new market development in construction , machine control & precision farming. This included working closely with Caterpillar in the mining and construction industry resulting in one of Trimble's most successful JV partnerships. I was integral to the creation of the earliest pioneering machine control systems, such as SiteVision ( earthworks ) and precision farming guidance and automation systems .Major projects supported by the team included HS1, the Oresund and Tagus Bridge projects and many large road and airport construction projects in the UK, France, Sweden, Norway, India, Spain & Ireland . This resulted in many of the worlds first uses of digital construction techniques and the first ever European precision farming projects.The European business areas I worked in grew organically from $0.5million USD to over $300 million with a growth of over $1 billion including acquisitions . A key responsibility of the role was starting- up and supporting the development of the international distribution channel. This concluded in the creation of one of of the industry's most successful direct and indirect channels across more than 50 countries.Trimble acqusitions in Europe during this period also included SpectraPrecision/Geotronics and Zeiss and a number of smaller channel acquisitions.

Between 1982 to 1989 responsible for all things data and for evaluating and commercially implementing a range of positioning technologies - including the first ever commercial differential GPS system for the offshore surveying industry . First generation experience of developing GPS for surveying and navigation since 1983.Project lead on the world’s first DGPS aided rig move (1984) , the first dynamic drill ship positioning in the Timor Sea (1985) and testing across wide range of ship applications. Led the development of the world’s first commercial Wide Area DGPS system (Skyfix GPS) in 1987. Full project management experience on many UK & overseas surveying projects. Field Survey Campaigns undertaken in Africa , Indonesia , Malaysia , Middle East, Arctic, Australia , China, Russia and India. Work included Geodetic surveys, Rig Positioning, Hydrographic & Cable laying and Marine and Land Seismic.Also responsible for supporting development and operational analysis of various ground based precise positioning systems including Pulse /8, Loran-C, Hyper-Fix , Trisponder , Pulsar and Micro-Fix. Provided global Geodetic support and data analysis for both land and marine operations.
