About Neil Young

From as far back as I can remember, I have often taken a contrary approach.Why can’t this be faster? Why can’t that be better? Why isn’t this fairer? It’s an attitude that I have taken into my career, taking pride in positive disruption, being prepared to pioneer, and have achieved success and won awards for it. My career has spanned hospitality (including British Airways) and the living sector (including CEO at Get Living). From start-ups to listed companies in C-suite positions - CEO, CFO and COO, at home and abroad – and now Investment Chair at my business Young.During my career I have personally invested in the living sector, buying our first asset back in the 1990s. These investments, alongside my career, have helped me grow a unique set of knowledge and experience. I am now in the phase of my life where, through Young, I invest in start-ups, early stage businesses and assets in the living sector. Over the last few years this has included working in a variety of sub sectors – including student (We Are Kin), key worker (QIQO), first time buyers (Fable Homes), renovation/sustainability and new products (MOSA). I also continue to positively challenge and improve the Build to Rent Sector, including sitting on the Government Build to Rent Committee.If you wish to discuss any living sector ideas or new ventures please feel free to contact me.

    Young Group was founded in 2003 to exploit a gap in the market. Individual investors could work with private bankers and financial advisers to invest in many assets but not directly into residential assets. Young Group bridged the gap to enable private investors to invest directly into residential assets. We covered the full service through Young Finance (mortgages), Young Furnishing and Young London (award winning let and management). Around the time of the financial crisis 2008/09 we saw another gap in the market. Institutional investors were interested in investing in the Private Rented Sector. However, the sector lacked experience. We therefore launched our blog site PRSUpdate to share our knowledge. This helped institutions understand the residential sector better and gave confidence to invest. We were then approached by corporates, institutional investors and Housing Associations for advice. Young Group then focused more on the wave of interest into what became the Build to Rent (BtR) sector. We were one of the driving forces behind the creation of the BtR sector. Our clients included Essential Living, Folio (Notting Hill Housing), Capco, Aviva, Delancey and Qatari Diar. Having advised the investors behind Get Living / East Village since 2011 (Delancey/Qatari Diar), in 2014 the four Directors of Young Group were asked to join Get Living as the Executive Team to take the business forward. We set up Get Living and grew it to 3,000 operational homes (8,000 homes including those under construction and in planning) and won Property Week's Landlord of the Year 4 out of 5 years. It became a £2bn+ listed REIT.In September 2019 I stepped down as Chief Executive at Get Living. Some of my colleagues and I are now back at (rebranded) Young. We are now using our experience to both set up firms and help early stage firms in the living sector.
