- Joined InstaSupply as part of the day one team of five people (CEO, CTO, two developers and an operations manager) to help businesses automate and manage their accounts payable process and spend. - Designed and built the InstaSupply platform in Python and Elasticsearch to provide strong web application and data processing capabilities, whilst also providing a fully searchable interface. - Built and led a team of seven remote first developers, most of whom previously had little or no Python or Elasticsearch experience. Through mentoring, pull requests and a culture of team support these new team members quickly became skilled and valued Python developers.- Over the four years of remote working at InstaSupply I have focused heavily on ensuring that the remotely based team formed and kept the relationships that allowed them to work in an effective and timely manner. - Built out a scalable continuous integration environment, with a particular focus on ensuring that our application was appropriately tested.- Owned the development of secured Elasticsearch clusters at a time when Elasticsearch did not make this available as an off the shelf option.

- Migrated a legacy .net platform to a heavily customised PHP-based Magento commence system.- Integrated Amazon CloudSearch within Magento in order to more effectively provide search results for customers than could be provided by Magento itself.

- Worked with the Web Playback team (responsible for worldwide Amazon video playback) to improve the Global Silverlight Player in C#. As part of this team, I was involved in projects to allow customers the ability to customise their subtitle look and feel, and to add “autoplay next episode” functionality.- I also led an initiative to generate realtime Quality of Service monitoring dashboards to effectively track customer experience within the player, whether this be overall quality of service, errors or features which are currently being AB tested.

- Led a team of approximately fifteen people, including software developers and QA engineers, to develop the LOVEFiLM frontend such that customers were able to sign up and log in with their amazon credentials, as a precursor to LOVEFiLM being fully absorbed into Amazon Prime Video. This also required integration into Amazon’s stored payment and address functionality. - Successfully managed relationships with teams both in the US and UK across multiple timezones in order to ensure the smooth running of the integration project.- The team successfully completed this work on time and without defect ready for the soft launch of the UK and DE Kindle Fire in October 2012.

- Led two teams containing twenty developers and QA engineers, across London and Cardiff to architect and build an entirely new and highly modular version of the BBC Homepage.- Architected the page such that it was able to be redeployed into different territories with different configuration with ease, as well as being able to be customised both by users and by editors within the corporation.- Became Scrum certified, and led the team’s development in a scrum-based fashion. - During development of the new Homepage, the team also had to support and develop new functionality on the existing Homepage, which had to be balanced against the cost to new development.- My role saw me involved at all levels of development of the page, from performing peer review of others' code, to architecting areas of the page, to making decisions regarding work priorities and direction.

- Scaled the “SearchMonkey” product from a prototype to a fully scaled product able to provide customised search results to all of Yahoo!’s search customers.- As Front-End Architect for Search in Europe I instigated various programmes of improvement, including the development of a system for Automation Front-End Testing. - Gave technical talks on behalf of Yahoo! on multiple occasions around Europe.- Developed various microsites.

In this position I was expected to maintain and develop applications used in the processing of satellite imagery. Various programming languages were used during my time at the Laboratory, including Java, Perl, IDL and PHP.Much of my time at the Laboratory was spent redeveloping the Remote Sensing Data Analysis Service's website (www.npm.ac.uk), ensuring that it worked in a large variety of web browsers, and that it conformed to W3C specifications. Along with the redevelopment of the website, a search engine was written which could query the group's 800,000 images.
