As a specialist in mobile payments, my job was to support mobile network operators in the developing world as they designed and deployed payment services for their customers. Drawing on relationships with a global network of practitioners, I monitored the evolution of the industry, identified good practices, and proposed new solutions to common problems. Then, at both the strategic and operational levels, I advised operators, sometimes working closely with local teams in order to make and implement recommendations. I wrote numerous blog posts and a series of articles, including reference works on distribution, marketing, and strategic partnerships; I spoke at industry events and with analysts and the press; and I engaged with both operators and financial authorities on payment systems regulation.
