About Neil Gorman
I have a Masters in Social Work (MSW) and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with eight years of experience working with a variety of clients, both individuals and families. During these eight years I've done extensive work with middle school students, high school students, and their families. I've also worked with individuals overcoming problems that arise from substance abuse including alcoholism. More recently I've has become interested in working with individuals who are experiencing stress as a result of divorce and/or relationship difficulties, stress arising from workplace / unemployment situations, and those experiencing PTSD and/or Acute Stress Disorder. Many different issues can being a person into the therapeutic process. I believe that just as individuals are unique, so too should be their therapies. My approach is informed by psychodynamic practices, which help clients become more aware of unconscious thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that are having a negative effect on their lives. I combine these practices with a client centered outlook in order to create a tailored treatment encounter which I believe clients will find engaging, empowering, and meaningful. In addition to clinical work at Edgewood, l also teach part time at the Aurora University School of Social Work, where I'm in the process of earning my DSW in Clinical Social Work.
