    Microsoft Jan 2014 - Mar 2015
    Redmond, Washington, Us
Once Xbox One shipped our team was moved into OSG to help build the tool suite for providing curated content to the unified store. In this role I’m helping to define the architecture used across the various platforms as well as the workflows that will be used to program the content.
  • Microsoft
Principal Development Lead, Interactive Entertainment Business
    Microsoft Dec 2012 - Jan 2014
    Redmond, Washington, Us
Manage multiple teams of developers in the Xbox Live organization. One team owns the metadata catalog for Video across all Microsoft Platforms. A second team owns the pipeline that is used to publish editorial data to the Home screens for the Xbox 360 console. And the third team develops the Content Management System used for editorial data displayed on the home screen for the Xbox One and many of Microsoft’s gaming web sites. This team also develops and maintains part of the pipeline that is then used to deliver this content to the clients. My responsibilities include supervising the development of our code, helping set the architecture for these components and coordinating our development with the services that are consumers of our data.

Built and managed a team of developers that investigated and took 3D video technology from Microsoft Research and transitioned it into multiple products. Built a recruiting pipeline of computer vision PHD candidates and systems experts and doubled the size of the team in 6 months while creating multiple sub-teams focused on different areas of technology. Designed and implemented an engineering process that allows the team to quickly develop code while ensuring that it meets product code standards.
  • Microsoft
    Development Manager, Windows Multipoint Server
    Microsoft Mar 2010 - Jul 2011
    Redmond, Washington, Us
In late 2009, the Unlimited Potentials Group was incubating a shared resource computing product targeted at education in emerging markets. I was asked to work with this team to see that the code met the server quality bar and I helped them convert this to a Server SKU. Once the product shipped, the team was brought into the Server organization and I have been acting as the development manager while a search is conducted for a permanent manager. Over the past year, I’ve set the technical direction for v2 of the product and managed the day to day operations of the developers on the team. In February 2011, we released Windows MultiPoint Server 2011, a major update to the product, less than one year after we shipped the initial version.
  • Microsoft
Principal Software Architect, Windows Server Solutions Group
    Microsoft Sep 2005 - Jul 2011
    Redmond, Washington, Us
Act as a consultant to the General Managers and product teams across three products (Windows Home Server, Windows Small Business Server, and Windows MultiPoint) and the Remote Desktop Services technology to help them set the strategic technical direction for their teams and to ensure the teams are making the correct technical investments. Help the teams evaluate and implement code that is shared between the products. Work as an intermediary between the product teams and Legal in terms of Patents, Antitrust, and Protocol documentation. In some of these areas I also am a resource to the legal team to help set companywide policies. Some of my patents have been used successfully in significant legal proceedings. Worked to establish Microsoft’s Shanghai development center as a part of the team that hired the majority of the first hundred fifty employees. Continued supporting the development center by mentoring developers, leads, and managers. I also was a part of the review process for developers and testers. I travelled to Shanghai two to three times a year for design reviews on several projects to ensure they were progressing on target.
  • Microsoft
    Development Manager, Windows Home Server
    Microsoft Jul 2006 - Jul 2007
    Redmond, Washington, Us
When the Development Manager for Windows Home Server left the company unexpectedly, I stepped in to manage the team through the release of the product while working with the General Manager to hire a replacement. Challenges here included taking a dysfunctional team with almost no engineering processes and putting them on a path to ship a product with reasonable quality. A show-stopping bug was found post rtm and I set the process in place to correct the problem in a reasonable time frame. This involved the hiring of very high level contractors with specific knowledge of the file system and arranging for them to work with our team. Also worked through the process of shipping trusted SSL certificates with every Home Server; This involved getting approval from many internal parties and helping to negotiate with an external company to issue the certificates.
