It Service Support Manager
Responsible for the management and leadership of the IT Service Support Team consisting of 9 staff and provision of IT support and client facing hardware within the college and University Centre of approximately 5000 computers, providing access and services for 1500 staff and 10000 students across 4 campuses and 13 prisons across the East Midlands and the East of England. I was the lead project manager and directly managed over £3m of IT expenditure.Projects included the IT fit out of 4 new buildings including Milton Keynes’ first University Centre, the creation of new data centres providing a resilient infrastructure, a complete infrastructure and client installation at HMP Littlehey Young Offenders Prison, PABX migration to multi-site VoIP, replacement of the entire desktop and laptop estate having negotiated a 3-year lease agreement, identity management systems and replacement MFD printing and reprographics estate.
It Network Manager
Reporting to the Head of IT, I was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire network and server infrastructure, overseeing infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, liaising with technology vendors and managing service desk operations with line management of four support staff across three primary sites and development of business focused SLA’s and KPI’s. I delivered a number of projects including the migration from Novell to Microsoft, Cisco infrastructure upgrade, disaster recovery and the move to virtualisation within the data centre.

Internally promoted to deliver the NPfIT Programme (National Programme for IT), I led the technical migration from Novell and Unix based systems to a Microsoft based infrastructure. The project included the design, testing and implementation of a Windows 2003 based Active Directory domain with the transition to Exchange and SQL. The service was reliant upon 24/7 access to critical systems with a user base in excess of 2000 staff.

Main duties included the installation and configuration of PCs, servers, peripherals and network devices. These included system administration of a mixed Microsoft NT4 and Server 2000 network, Active Directory, Exchange, Systems Management Server, Citrix Metaframe, anti-virus, data backup, disaster recovery testing, router and switch configuration.

Working at Luton Borough Council within the Information and Customer Services department I achieved a full National Traineeship qualification at NVQ Level 2 together with a range of IT Support and Cisco qualifications. Main duties included responding to support calls on the 1st Line Support desk and 2nd Line hardware and software support. All working procedures adhered to BS7799 and ISO9000 standards. Projects included desktop refresh, network infrastructure replacement including the configuration and installation of Cisco hardware.
