Worked on NASA 4.5m dual S and Ku bands antenna drive system. Responsible for developing PCD (Preliminary Concept Document) which includes defining system requirements, proposing design approaches, performing design trade analysis, preparing ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) and Bases of estimates (BOE) cost, preparing preliminary schedule, presenting at System Engineering Working Group (SEWG). The proposed approaches were based on in-house refurbishment, and vendor turn-key solution ROM costs. In-house approach was based on replacing the jack screw and drive motor controller using Yaskawa DC motors and embedded FPGA controller. Worked on replacement of NASA BRTS (Bi-lateral Ranging Transponder System) for satellite Orbit Determination (OD). Responsible for developing PCD for sustainment of the BRTS network of 4 ground stations. Proposed an in-house approach to use the legacy system design RF front-end and replace the unsupported and proprietary baseband receiver that is based on a low cost COTS receiver design from Comblock SDR (Software Defined Radio) using FPGA platform. The receiver alone provided a cost saving of $320K when compared with RT-Logic proprietary receiver. Worked on replacement of 10m S-band TT&C antenna drive system. Responsible for preparing PCD to present system requirements, design approaches, ROM cost analysis for each design, trade study of the approaches, preliminary schedules, and recommend an approach with summary quad chart. Prepared PDCR (Preliminary Design Concept Review) presentation for NASA representatives.Worked on upgrading the Spectrum Analyzer Monitoring System using VM (Virtual Machine) network system accessing the RF and IF spectrum of each SGLT (Space to Ground Link Terminal). Responsible to prepare PCD defining requirements, providing approaches, and presenting KDPs (Key Decision Points), e.g., PDR, CDR, SAR, and ORR.
