Co-lead in the AI4HEALTH deep learning team at VITO. The team has a strong background in deep learning for medical image analysis, as demonstrated by the teams’ retinal imaging spin-off MONA.health. Currently, the team focuses on developing tools and metrics that can help the transition to more trustworthy medical AI.

Active in the MONA team that conducts research into the application of deep learning on retinal images in order to improve early diagnosis of ocular and cardiovascular diseases. I lead the development and validation of the deep learning model that detects diabetic retinopathy. Therefor I have followed a diabetic retinopathy grading course in the UK to gain insights into the development of the disease and the clinical needs for disease detection and treatment. In August 2021 a spinoff company named MONA.health was created. MONA will commercialize deep learning-based products for the detection and follow-up of retinal diseases. It will do this strengthened by the deep learning models, patents, expertise and IP from the VITO AI4HEALTH team.

Qaelum is a start-up company of the University Hospitals Leuven active in the field of quality management for medical imaging. During the summer of 2017 I assisted in writing a grant application together with the research team.

EY Subsidia has actively assisted companies, authorities and organisations in Belgium and neighbouring countries in obtaining government support, managing and following up funded projects. During my time at EY I actively assisted a small scaled Belgium based company in obtaining government support through outlining, writing and achieving a funded project proposal.
