Research AssistantKhalil Lab Boston University Feb 2019 - Apr 2021Greater Boston AreaDr. Khalil's lab focuses on using the tools of synthetic biology to study evolution and cellular regulatory networks with the goal of translating these findings to address unmet therapeutic needs. In collaboration with a post-doc, my current project focuses on investigating the role of TDP-43 protein aggregation in the development of Alzheimer's disease with the ultimate aim of designing a synthetic genetic circuit with the ability to sense protein aggregation in neurons and activate cellular machinery to degrade this excess protein.

Data And Salesforce SpecialistSynbiobeta Jun 2018 - Aug 2018San Francisco Bay AreaIn addition to organizing the largest global annual synthetic biology conference, SynBioBeta serves as a digital platform for the synthetic biology industry, offering a weekly industry digest, webinars, and relevant articles. As a data specialist, I designed a categorization system for the company client database in order to make information searchable and sortable by sub-category. Additionally, as the salesforce administrator, I created new products and packages, as well as unique bids for each prospective client. I also developed salesforce reports, analyzed results, and presented sales recommendations to my managers. The position exposed me to over two thousand synthetic biology and biotechnology companies, enabling me to gain a better understanding of the industry as a whole. -
Clinical InternChild Family Health International Oct 2017 - Nov 2017Oaxaca De Juárez Area, MexicoCFHI, an international non-profit, facilitates the placement of human biology and medical students in apprenticeships where they assist in healthcare delivery and immerse themselves in unfamiliar clinical settings. My program, located in Oaxaca City Mexico, blends intensive Spanish instruction, local NGO volunteering, and in-hospital physician shadowing. The program emphasizes the investigation of social and economical determinants of health and disease. -
Co-PresidentBiome (Biological Interdiscplinary Open Maker Environment) May 2016 - Apr 2017San Francisco Bay AreaBiome is a Stanford organization that fosters student-initiated bioengineering projects and is committed to making biology accessible to students from all disciplines. As president, I utilized previous experience as Biome lab manager to develop a novel research project proposal system and help students revise their experimental designs. I also designed and taught laboratory skills modules to club members. Frequent collaboration with Bioengineering faculty led to the creation of an student lab-use policy which allowed students to safely conduct independent research outside of class. In the Spring of 2017, I helped to organize a hack-a-thon event that brought together biotechnology industry partners to facilitate the creation of new research projects and advance existing experiments.

Lab ManagerBiome Sep 2015 - Jun 2016San Francisco Bay AreaAs the lead for our pilot lab project, I developed wet lab education modules for use in training the six project members. I also worked with a faculty advisor to create experiments that mimic biological conditions in order to test the efficacy of a medical device designed to reduce bacterial load in patients as well as suction viscous secretions. Serving as the club safety officer exposed me to appropriate risk management strategies and protocols for the safe disposal of chemical and biological waste products.

Co-FounderAdvance Health Nov 2015 - May 2016San Francisco Bay AreaAdvance Health began as a project within the Lean Launchpad course at the Stanford Business School. After 118 customer interviews with a variety of stakeholders, including nurses, doctors, insurance executives, ACO directors, hospice caregivers, and patients, our three-person team developed a telehealth platform to connect patients with under-utilized providers trained in conducting goals of care conversations. Following these consultations, Advance Health worked with the user to finalize his/her advance directive and then ensured that the document was integrated back into the medical record. In spring of 2016, we were selected to pitch our plan at the BASES start-up competition.

Research AssistantUcla Department Of Bioengineering Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Greater Los Angeles AreaDr. Xia Yang’s lab at UCLA employs systems biology techniques to study the effects of gene network perturbation on the development of metabolic diseases. I learned to work with the R programming language in order to organize and analyze genetic and epigenetic transcripts from mouse models. Using this form of analysis, I created a gene network map, highlighting the statistically significant genetic markers that were implicated in the development of mild traumatic brain injury. This map was intended to serve as a guide for more targeted research moving forward. -
InternEndgame Entertainment Jun 2014 - Aug 2014I evaluated scripts and submitted story analyses to company executives. I also conducted film financing case studies with a team of interns. -
Production InternAllison Shearmur Productions Jun 2014 - Aug 2014Greater Los Angeles AreaI read 3-5 film and/or TV scripts per day and provided “coverage” for each, including a synopsis, critical analysis, and a recommendation as to whether the script should be considered for development.
