Canterbury Laboratories Recruited as Chairman of the board of a cosmeceutical company to assist the CEO and management team in targeting and achieving specific goals and timelines, fundraising, organizing the company with a new strategic vision and implementing a new marketing plan. With technology licensed from Yale University significant work had been accomplished to demonstrate marked results with a topical estrogen renewal formulation for post menopausal women for the face and secondary market of VVA (vulvar and vaginal atrophy). The company was successfully sold to a public entity based in New York funded by the Ex-Celgene team of Sol Barer and Isaac Blech. Nelson remains an active board member of the public company, Restorgenex (SMDI).

Director and CEO, recruited by leading debt and equity investors Highland Capital Management and Morgan Stanley Partners to turn around and restructure a prior NASDAQ listed biotech company. In this role I reduced cash burn by more than 20M dollars, extended the current cash runway by more than 3 quarters, refocused and completely repositioned the company as a prostate cancer entity, negotiated and settled 3 simultaneous law suits and re-energized the team. Initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial on a leading diagnostic program and helped oversee the trial of the prostate cancer therapeutic program as well as a Phase 3 clinical trial for neuroendocrine orphan cancers. I partnered Japanese rights for one of the cancer imaging assets with a multinational corporation for multimillion dollar upfront payments plus royalties and milestones. In January 2013 I successfully sold the company to a Nasdaq listed biotech company, Progenics Pharmaceuticals, with upfront, milestone, and royalty payments.

Utilising a patented guidewire technology these devices allow even a moderately skilled caregiver to successfully access and thread peripheral veins on the first attempt. Raised $14M USD from leading Venture Capital groups and brought in the first purchase order from the US Military. Brought the company through regulatory requirements and began manufacturing high volume complex products.

Worked with development groups in Melbourne Australia, India, Singapore and Vietnam.

Cancer biotech company focused on intractable cancer painExecutive Chairman and acting CEO of a 25 person biotechnology company utilizing venom peptides to create drug compounds. In this role I wrote the business plan and all presentation materials, re-focused the company on more commercially viable pain targets and markets, re-budgeted and prioritized expenses saving over $1M/year USD, oversaw phase 2 clinical trials for the management of intractable cancer pain, licensed the platform technology to US and Australian corporations and raised $18M in a series C investment from US and Australian venture capitalists and US corporate investors at a step up in valuation from the prior round. I ultimately hired a permanent Australian CEO to run the company.

ASX listed Sydney Australia based company, previously focused on microfluidics and uniform particle size manufacture, then repurposed as an acquisition vehicle to enable new technologies to come to the market.Director and CEO of a publicly listed healthcare company. In this role I raised $6M in funding and negotiated to take majority ownership in a listed biotech company which I ultimately used as a “SPAC” to negotiate, license and purchase additional assets and grow a completely new business while divesting the legacy Supercritical Fluid Technology to a US public entity at an increased value to the investors. I recruited premier directors from the US and Australia to the Board. Successfully negotiated and completed the clinical trial from a venture capital funded California company of an FDA 510k approved medical device versus the gold standard at Case Western Reserve and Washington Hospital in geriatrics, and oncology. I ultimately negotiated the purchase of and brought in a set of Australian pharmaceutical assets into the company.

Completed the Kauffman Fellowship with Oak, engaging in all aspects of venture capital investing.Responsibilities included selection of domestic and international investment candidates, licensing, spinning out technologies from universities, due diligence, structuring deals/term sheets, negotiating with management teams, operational management within portfolio companies, serving on boards of portfolio companies, and raising new funds from limited partners. Telecommunications infrastructure, wireless transport and backhaul, healthcare devices, biotechnology, and general software applications were the primary areas of investment focus.
