I worked for AAA to find and recruit new technicians for service work. Positions filled include plumbers, drain cleaners, sewer sales, electricians and HVAC. While there I also performed ride a long training to help technicians see the importance of excellent customer service and increase their sales abilities. Was also responsible for terminating some technicians as needed.(the least pleasant aspect of any job) I counseled department managers on methods for dealing with and counseling employees that were struggling with their job duties. Basically I wore a wide variety of hats until we found a dedicated service manager for the plumbing department. While there I laid the foundation for an HR department which included organizing files and assuring compliance with state and federal laws.

I took an opportunity to do something I had wanted to do for many years. Acquired my class A license and drove an 18 wheeler over the road.Saw many things and places that most people never get the chance to see.I gained an insight into a completely different trade and was shocked to learn that the problems and concerns were the same ones that I had experienced as a plumbing owner, manager and technician.Quality and dependability of employees, customer relations, scheduling, unexpected breakdowns, compensation, benefits and on and on. The similarities were eye opening to me and gave me a new perspective on business.

All aspects of running a service company. I was a sole proprietor by choice. The structure was such that it allowed me to participate in many other interest which included band parent at the schools my children attended. Also was very active in PHCCA at state and local level. Spent time as membership committee chair, served on board of directors, vice president and president of Denver Metro PHCCA.

Formal training in plumbing codes and systems. After graduation I was assigned a base in Kansas City, Mo. My duties there were to maintain and repair buildings and on base housing systems.I continued my training and was upgraded to Journeyman Plumber level. Another aspect of my duties was greeting new arrivals to the C.E. Squadron and show them around. Gave them the tour and served as mentor. While giving the new NCOIC a tour of the grounds which included the golf course, I managed to drive the golf cart into a row of bushes. Needless to say he wasn't impressed. To my benefit he was a great guy and realized that my young age and lack of experience contributed to this event. While there he taught me a lot about patience, training and cooperation.
