Glio was a marketplace for cosmetics based in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil and backed by YC. I worked as a backend developer, and the first thing I did was to create a small service to identify fraudulent payments using scores given by other two fraud detection systems. After that, I helped with the stabilization of the application since we're facing a lot of downtime periods and, the game changer was to move cronjobs to a different machine to avoid memory spikes and consequently outages. After this change we decided to take care about our code and development process so, I introduced RuboCop and also HoundCI to make sure everyone in the team was in the same page for code style and complexity of new and old methods. Besides, I also implemented the whole return and refund process, supplier punishments mechanism because of delayed deliveries, and one of the oldest bugs of the company split shipments without creating a duplicate one.

As a backend developer, I was responsible for creating a test suite in that way our team could start doing TDD, and our software could be changed without fear and panic. After that, we started to do pair programming for new features like promotion code one and then some tech talks to discuss some software best practices and design ideas. By doing this, code reviews thru pull requests and Jenkins for CI we started to make up to ten deploys a day, and our code quality improved a lot.
