As project lead, I collaborated with business-focused software development teams to understand system requirements and negotiate priorities. I then deconstructed large requirements into smaller deliverables to be developed concurrently by myself and the other engineers. In addition to performing code reviews, I also spent time coaching and mentoring.

I was responsible for the majority of software, electronic, and mechatronic R&D within the company during my employment. I designed the software and electronics for the following machines:Automatic Portion Cutter: Takes a 3D scan of a fish fillet and cuts pieces to weight.Demo: https://youtu.be/lLU9WCLzLGI • Industry leading accuracy was ±6%. I engineered the machine to achieve better than ±3%. • Designed a 3D scanner in-house, improving performance over the off-the-shelf part and taking 85% off cost. • A servo vendor advertised its timing accuracy within 10ms. I developed a special technique to improve its accuracy to within <100μs.Combination Weigher: Selects an ideal combination of weighed pieces for minimum product giveaway.Demo: http://rycous.com/835-combibatcher/ • Designed a low-noise 8-channel ADC daughterboard and driver software. • Aggressively optimized the selection algorithm for quick execution on embedded hardware. Motion Compensated Scale: Uses signals from two load cells to get a stable weight reading on rough seas.Demo: https://youtu.be/PjnYHxn_DhE • Calibration and motion correction factors used to be hard coded through trial and error on land. I created a new method that uses the boat motion itself to calibrate the factors in a user-friendly way. • Redesigned the user interface to be more intuitive and responsive. • Redesigned the motherboard to take half the space, use less power, and have better noise resistance. • Achieved NIST and OIML certification on the stationary version of the product.
