Nerissa Maharaj has worked in radio for 20 years in technical and her skills and knowledge cover IT, Studio Technology and Outside Broadcasts. This experience puts her in a unique position as she was required to understand every single job role within radio in order to provide quick and efficient technical support. During lockdown in 2020 she decided to open and operate Underground Radio, an online radio station that is a training platform for aspiring radio content creators. The station was operated remotely during lock down and everyone was able to train and do their shows from the comfort and safety of their homes. Once restrictions were removed Nerissa was able to construct a studio in Durban North (KZN) where the studio has been based since. At the end of 2022 Nerissa resigned from Gagasi FM, where she managed the Technical department, before deciding to branch out on her own. She founded Nouveau Mirage Media, a content creation company, were she unlocked her creative side. Under the company she published books such as Makhosi’s Khoza’s memoir, The A to Z of radio content creation and Kind Regards? - A tale of death and survival in corporate South Africa (which she co-authored). She also contributed to a chapter in the book “My Radio Memory” by Robin Sewlall. Nerissa then went on to fund and executive produced Makhosi Khoza’s docu-reality TV series, Ngizolalela Emsakazweni - The Journey which aired on DSTV in February 2023.
