Nerissa is currently the IBDP and Cambridge (IGCSE) coordinator of Victoria Academy. She is also the IBDP Chemistry teacher. Part of her role is ensuring that the curriculum is aligned from year 7 to year 12 and all references/syllabi used by the teachers are updated. Likewise, she keeps the entire community especially parents and students well informed about the IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes. In her 2 decades of teaching Chemistry, she never ceased to upgrade her teaching skills. She is motivated to make her classes, enriching and fun. After finishing her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry at the University of the Philippines, she immediately enrolled for Master of Science in Chemistry then later enrolled for Diploma of Professional Education at the same university where she enhanced her pedagogical skills. She then continued with her Masters of Arts in Chemistry while teaching in a State University. After having successfully passed her licensure examination for teachers, she got more motivated to teach at the secondary level. She has taught different curricula, from local to international and has been an active IBDP Examiner for Chemistry. She became a Cambridge Chemistry Examiner on her 4th year of the teaching of the curriculum. Likewise, she has attended local and international conferences, including ANPS Teacher’s Conference, EARCOS Teacher’s Conference, IBO Training Workshop and Cambridge Schools Conference. Nerissa believes that education is evolving and as a teacher, we need to be well equipped and cater to the needs of the learners. She has applied different pedagogical practices such as differentiated instruction, inquiry-based learning, blended learning, active learning, integration of technology, and use of web 2.0 tools in her classes. She has also given workshops on some of the pedagogical skills to her colleagues at Sekolah Bogor Raya Indonesia and Victoria Academy Taiwan during their Professional Development days.
