Research grant approved by the European Union to undertake research activities on the European project “European genetic resources of Cynara spp. (CYNARES)”, working jointly with 7 Units from France, Italy and Spain. SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY:- Wide experience in genetic and morphological research in Cynara genus (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus and Cynara cardunculus var. sylvestris) with a view to: (i) study of genetic variability by using molecular markers for germplasm collection and conservation; (ii) breeding activities and evaluation of new cultivars of artichoke ecotypes propagated by seed by using molecular markers and UPOV descriptors; (iii) using the technique of cDNA to detect: differences between diseased plants and rehabilitated by virus and plant response to salty stress checking by molecular markers; (iv) creation of a population of F1 artichoke through the use of male sterility, molecular analysis and creation of a gene map; (v) morphological characterization using UPOV descriptors for germplasm collections and (vi) study of somaclonal variation of micropropagated plants in short and medium in vitro conservation;- Research activities in the analysis of genetic variability using molecular markers in: landraces of lentil (Lens esculenta), garlic (Allium sativum), bean (Phaseolus vulgaris); and nut (Juglans regia);- Cultivation in vitro of chestnut (Castanea sativa), olive (Olea europaea L.) and kiwi (Actinidia chinensis) and use of salicylic acid in the explants cultivation
