He set up event pages on IPS and on Facebook, and another site for advance ticket sales. He also created fliers for us to distribute and social media prompts (including suggested tweets) to encourage turnout, and made sure that the event got publicized on local media. He regularly sent updates to event cosponsors, keeping us in the loop and reminding us to keep getting the word out. As usual, Netfa’s dedication and persistence paid off—it was a sold-out show. For Netfa, organizing turnout is itself political organization, and his pre-event work made the event more engaging than it would have otherwise been. The attendees came already excited and educated about the issues, eager to learn more and to get involved. In the weeks following the event, at least a dozen attendees reached out to me to say how happy they were to have gone. In my six years in this city, I have not met anyone else with Netfa’s combined passion for social justice and organizational capacity.
