Our mission is to advance the understanding of religious, political, and economic freedom for peace and prosperity in Muslim majority countries and beyond.We were founded in 2011 to bring together researchers, academics, and public intellectuals to demonstrate the consistency of the universal values of religious, political and economic freedom with Islam. Our research outputs show that Islam is not just consistent with freedom; indeed Islam requires freedom.Our annual programme includes an international conference, training workshops, and publishing articles, papers, podcasts and webinars which reach thousands of interested individuals.Islam and Liberty Network was awarded Asia Liberty Award for 2020 for “establishing a Muslim case for free society” for its work in Asia and Middle East.Legally the Islam & Liberty Network is registered as a Labuan foundation in Malaysia. It is governed by our international Council.

Writer assisting Tenaganita to produce a book compiling stories from survivors of human trafficking in Malaysia. This book will be the 4th installment of Tenaganita’s ‘Modern Day Slavery’ series. The 4th installment, yet untitled, aims to expose readers towards a publication focused on different forms of trafficking that take place in Malaysia while centering survivor voices.

"Owning History: Stories of Reckoning" is Imagined Malaysia's pilot literary programme co-funded by the European Union and UN International Organisation for Migration. The project aims to provide an opportunity for youths from refugee communities, between the ages of 13 and 18, to freely express their sense of heritage, identity and belonging through creative writing. Being the subject of targeted xenophobic hatred, refugee youth in Malaysia are not empowered to articulate their voices and lived experiences with an emphasis on diversity, plurality and richness. One way this issue can be understood is there is a lack of safe, accessible spaces for freedom of expression that prioritises the originality of refugee narratives.

Project Manager and Executive Researcher of #TanpaPerkauman: An Anti-racist History of Malaysia.#TanpaPerkauman is an online advocacy campaign that explores the historical precedents for the manifestation, nature and impact of racism and racial discrimination. This project is a partnership between Imagined Malaysia and the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs and co-funded by the European Union in Malaysia.

Co-curator of Jalan Merdeka: Traversing the Routes to Independence, held at Carcosa & Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur. This exhibition tells the story of Merdeka, including perspectives not normally presented, and featuring the relevance of Carcosa and King's House chronologically from the formation of the Federated Malay States in 1896 (when Carcosa was built) to Merdeka (including the Merdeka Agreement that was signed in King's House).
