Project Lead ImplementationIom - Un Migration Dec 2021 - Jul 2022Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory Of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia"Owning History: Stories of Reckoning" is Imagined Malaysia's pilot literary programme co-funded by the European Union and UN International Organisation for Migration. The project aims to provide an opportunity for youths from refugee communities, between the ages of 13 and 18, to freely express their sense of heritage, identity and belonging through creative writing. Being the subject of targeted xenophobic hatred, refugee youth in Malaysia are not empowered to articulate their voices and lived experiences with an emphasis on diversity, plurality and richness. One way this issue can be understood is there is a lack of safe, accessible spaces for freedom of expression that prioritises the originality of refugee narratives. -
